Classroom in the Clouds is a small charity aiming provide the equipment that Nepalese local people need to become empowered to create educational opportunities for their families.

The aim is to donate materials which will enable the villagers to:
- Build a 1-3 classroom school with sanitary & limited catering facilities;
- Equip the classrooms with desks, chairs and writing materials;
- Generate electricity to provide lighting heating and power for up to five computers; - Purchase text books and other educational material;
- Support the cost of a teacher for at least three years.
The Lukla Project
The first project is to build a school in Lukla in the Khumbu valley in Nepal (home to many of the sherpa porters who work on Himalayan expeditions). Most families are very poor and cannot afford to give their children a proper education.

The plans are progressing but remain in early stages. The engineer has finished the sketches of the building
A local Sherpa guide and village Elder has donated land and organised the collection of the raw materials to be
used in the building process. All Labour is to be provided
by the local community and inspected by a Government official. So, as soon as sufficient funds for the project are raised, the construction begins!
The plan is to start by offering primary school grades from nursery (age 3-5) to grade 5 (age 10), and in the future, to grow to include grades 6-10 (lower secondary and secondary school). We are planning to accommodate up to 32 students per class, which will make about 150-200 students to start with. But actual numbers will probably be lower than this, until the school's reputation is established. The school will not be government funded. It will be privately funded, but not for profit.
In the beginning we plan to bring in 5 teachers from India (probably Bombay and Mussoorie) but this will be expensive in the long run. We hope to attract kids who are currently getting good education in boarding school in Kathmandu to take up teaching, and help fund their training. That way we can end up with locals being able to stay in their home town and teach.
Since this is such a small charity, any money you give will really make a huge difference - so please be generous if you can!
