Dear friends,
Well, here I am, back in Vancouver. Been here for a couple days and already had a fair few drunken nights, music making with Elliott, and applying for jobs. Going to send off some press kits/demos to some venues and try to get some gigs with the band lined up. So keep a lookout for show listings. Also check back every few weeks for new recordings. I might have some stuff sooner or later...
Until then, kids, take care. And don't let the damn coppas get you down.

Sorry it's been so long, guys, but there really hasn't been much going on with Chris Bauer's music lately. But I'm working on changing that.
First off, I'd like to mention that my band, The Royal, was recently played on a podcast called Northwest Noise, showcasing bands from the Pacific Northwest. If you wanna hear, go here. Download the file that's linked by the text "Listen to the show." He gets to us about ten minutes in. Woo.
In other current events concerning me and my music, I'm planning on getting another EP out in the near future...hopefully sometime in the Summer. The plan was to record this Spring Break and have it out before the end of the school year, but it's looking like I might not even be able to do any recording until Summer, so it could be a few months, kids. But I'm getting there.
In other news, The Failing Pedestrian EP is completely sold out and no more. If you didn't buy one when you had the chance, well...too bad. You'll have to just buy the new one and then spend a fortune in the future on an eBay auction for the first one ;)
The site needs a redesign, and I know it, but I just can't be bothered to do it -- especially with finals going on and all. So deal.
That's all for now, I think. Take care of yourselves.
XO, Chris

I know, I've totally neglected the site the past few months. I've been completely overwhelmed with school, work, and rugby, and have had pretty much no life this term. However, things will get better. Next term I'm taking fewer credits, not playing rugby. I'll (hopefully) have more free time.
Because I've been so busy and stressed, music kind of got put on the back burner for a little while, but that's definitely over with now. I'm rollin again, and have been writing some groovy stuff. Maybe I'll record and post it sometime :) Keep a lookout on the MySpace page for it.
That's another thing: I don't think I ever mentioned it on here, but I have a MySpace page where you can hear tunes, find out about shows, see photos, send messages, etc. So be sure to check it out. (By the way, this is different than the page for The Royal -- this is my solo music page)
That's it for now, I think. I'll be heading home for Winter holiday in a few days, where I'll hopefully get to work on some music with Elliott and return to Bellingham with some groovy stuff goin. Until my next message, take care of yourselves, eh.
- Chris
P.S. Yeah, I know I need a new main page. I jsut haven't had time to design and create it. So it's outdated. Deal.
16 August 2005
There's a proper MySpace page for The Royal now, complete with four great songs! Go! Listen! Add!
P.S. Tomorrow I'm seeing COLDPLAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love,
Chris
4 August 2005
It's been forever since I last posted. Sorry, guys. Well, to briefly fill you in:
I've been getting stuff together with my new band. We are tentatively called the Rose City Rockers, but plan to change names. It's almost certain by now that the name will be The Royal. But we could change our minds. You can hear some crappy demo recordings on our current MySpace page.
We might be getting a gig or two in Portland at a couple of clubs. And I'll look into playing this Portal place in Vancouver, as well. You'll know about any booked shows when I do.
In news on my solo stuff, I've added a new date to the Shows page for late September in the campus coffeehouse. Please do come out.
Oooh, an important announcement: I only have a handful of copies of The Failing Pedestrian EP left and do not plan on producing any more. This is your last chance to own a piece of musical history ;) For ordering information, see the main page.
That's it for now. Take care, guys.
Cheers,
Chris
15 May 2005
So the school year is nearing its end, whereupon I shall find myself again residing in Vancouver and will be found at my old beloved haunts of Portland. You can be sure to find me at the Red and Black open mic numerous times over the season, and may also hope for a couple shows if I can manage.
There are a couple new tunes... I debuted one last Tuesday at the Underground open mic. My friend and fellow musician David Zhang said it was quite good, so it must be, right? ;) Hoping for some more tunes soon, but we can't rush these things, eh.
In other news, I'll be playing a brief set this Saturday at Fairhaven Residences' Endfair in the courtyard sometime after 1.00 pm. So come out, won't you?.
I also added photos from the January Fairhaven show with Handful of Luvin'. Dig it.
That's all for now, kids. I hope all is well for you. Cheers.

Though I really quite...dislike MySpace, I've given in and made a MySpace account for my music. Cos I figure it's a good way to get it out there and for people find out about it. Really, those of you cool enough to detest MySpace, please don't hold it against me. Anyway, the page is here: http://www.myspace.com/christopherbauer/ (it would have been /chrisbauer, but that one's already taken by some kid who apparently has the same name as me....veird, I know). If you have your own account, totally Friend me, man.
In other news, I'm working on getting a band together this summer with my good friend Elliott (pianist/keyboardist) and his friend Kurt on drums. We've been talking about it a lot and making plans. So hopefully something will come of that. More on it later, when the time comes. Until then, cheers, kids.

11 March 2005
It's been a long time since an update, I know. But truthfully, there hasn't been much going on in the way of my music. The songwriting process is coming along very slowly (i.e. near nonexistent), although I do have a few new things. Not enough to really merit playing the open mic at the Coffeehouse weekly as I used to, though, which is why I haven't for the past few months.
But there is now some stuff going on. Some great shows coming up in a few weeks, to kick off the Spring term and season. Check the Shows page for details.
I may start making some patches if there's interest for them. Want one? E-mail me and tell me you're interested, and we'll see if there's a big enough demand for me to do it.
Cheers,
Chris

Over a year ago, after the passing of Elliott Smith, a number of fans of the SweetAddy message board (of his official site), decided to put together a tribute album. After many failed attempts, it has finally been compiled and released, as an online album. You can download it here. Please check it out. There were some great contributions from some great artists. My particular file somehow ended up sounding a bit wonky, with some kind of echoey and flanger-sort of sounds that were not there originally. Whether this was done intentionally by the compiler of the album or was some flaw in compression I don't know, but the basic tune is still there. Hope you dig it.
By the by, if you are interested in the album (or even if you're not, regardless) and have the means, please donate a small something to the Elliott Smith Memorial Fund. You can read the excerpt from the album notes with an explanation of the purpose of the fund below.
Thanks to any of you who came to see me play at the last couple of shows. I had a lot of fun, and hopefully we'll have more coming sometime in the near future.
Cheers,
Chris
These musicians have done the great favor of sharing their covers with you. In return, they ask that you do them a small favor and DONATE at least FIVE DOLLARS to the ELLIOTT SMITH MEMORIAL FUND (http://www.sweetadeline.net/esmf.html). Tonight's show was awesome. The PA was nice, the lighting was nice. The audience was pretty good. And of course, HOL rocked it hard, man. They had quite a few mishaps -- broken strings, pickups falling into soundholes, but it was all taken care of really nicely, and they put on an awesome show. You all should come out to the Stuart's show next weekend. Cheers, mates.
- Chris
P.S. If any of you happened to get any photos, send em my way, eh. In case you didn't notice, the Photos page is in dire need of.....photos.
20 January 2005
Messed about a skosh with the Photos page. Added a few pictures. Not many at all, but at least a few more. If you go to a show, take some photos and send them to me, or just e-mail me regardless. I like letters :)
Really looking forward to the show on Saturday. Hope to see you there. Take it easy, kids.

16 January 2005
Sadly, the benefit concert was canceled. We're all really bummed, as we were really looking forward to it. But what can you do, eh?
However, the other gigs are still on as planned. I'm getting pretty excited, especially for the Fairhaven show. Jenni, my RA and organizer of the concert, made flyers and a big poster with my name right on it. It's awesome. Haw. So come out to the show. It's free. And it will be a great show. Hope to see you there.
6 January 2005
Some awesome stuff going on as of just a few minutes ago, guys. And it all just fell into place -- just happened all at once -- while I was sitting at my computer. There are two pieces of news:
Firstly, an awesome Western student called Britt (whose last name I do not know) is organizing a benefit concert to aid those affected by the Tsunami in Asia. After e-mailing her saying I was interested, she asked me to join the bill, so I shall be playing. It will be in the WWU Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, 19 January. Times and other information to be announced as things are finalized. Please come to see a great range of talents from students of Western, and to support those who are in great need of it.
Now, the other bit of news. I've been in touch with Chon Travis, lead singer of Love=Death. He has some great solo stuff in addition to his stuff with the band, and said he's hoping to do a West Coast tour of small venues and coffeehouses during the summer. And he said he'd like to have me along. Now, of course this is all tentative and in the early stages of planning, so nothing planned or guaranteed at all, but there's a chance I may go on this small tour with Chon this summer. So keep an eye out for updates on that in the future, kids.
That's all I have for now. I have three gigs this month, so come on out and say hi.
See you at the shows,
Chris
2 January 2005
Just a quick update. The Fairhaven gig (formerly on the 8th) has been rescheduled for the 22nd. Same month, same time, same place, same bill, still free :) And the songs on the PureVolume site are now available for download. Not really sure why they weren't in the first place. But now you can download them and listen when you want, and put them on mix tapes/CDs for friends (double :)).
Those of you heading back from holiday to university, travel safely, and take care. And to all of you, a happy new year, eh.
All my loving, Christopher
15 December 2004
So I am home. Vancouver home, that is. And I'm sick. But I'm dealing with getting rid of that one, eh. I plan to be making a special visit to the Red and Black's Songwriter's Showcase this Sunday with Elliott (playing some new material), so ye Portland/Vancouver kids, be sure to check it out.
As for those up Bellingham way, don't forget the January gigs coming up. I'll be playing in the Fairhaven College/commons building on the 8th with Handful of Luvin' and later that month on the 29th at Stuart's, with David John. It'll be awesome. Check it out.
Happy holidays to you all.
Chris
29 November 2004
A few shows have been booked. One of them being the re-scheduling of the Stuart's gig. They're both free. Please do show up if you're in the area.
Other than that, hope you all have a great holiday. I did, though it wasn't nearly long enough. But the term will soon be over, and at such a time, I shall be found back in Vancouver. And that time can not come soon enough. You can be sure I'll try to hit up the Red and Black open mic once or twice while there, as well, so look out for that, Portland/Vancouver folks.
Take care, kids.
- Chris
16 November 2004
Sadly, this Saturday's show at Stuart's has been canceled. The guy who does the booking accidentally double-booked with some touring acts. A good thing, though, is that he's really sorry and really wants to get us back to play some other time.
Adam, Handful of Luvin's manager said he was going to see if he could get us a gig at the Underground in place of this canceled show, but that's just an idea that could very well not come to be. But I'll let you know if it does. So sorry, kids. But there will be other times. Look out for the Fairhaven concert, likely to go down January eighth!
14 November 2004
I've written a new song, a product of a late night alone in my small room which has become my home. You can get it from the Music page.
Congratulations to Lauren for winning my autograph. She'll soon be getting something rad ex ten in the post, no doubt.
7 November 2004
Well, kids. As a result of my being busted by the RD here in my housing complex for drinking, I am forced to pay fifty dollars for a drug/alcohol prevention/intervention class. Since I don't have any money (classic "poor college student" citation), I have devised the best means of obtaining these funds: selling my autograph on eBay, of course!
It's at a really cheap starting bid (only a dollar!! A STEAL!!!), and you can have me sign whatever on whatever. For instance, you could have me write Dear [your name here], you are the rockinest rocker ever to rock. You are the sex. w00t. Love, Christopher Bauer.
So please help my cause and own something really great at the same time. You know you want to. And you know I want you to.
With love,
Chris

2 November 2004
Well, kids, I have another date lined up. It's at a local coffehouse, opening for David John of Handful' of Lovin'. This excerpt from their shows update of their mailer pretty much sums it all up:
Saturday, November 20th
Free Acoustic Show
Stuart's Coffeehouse
David John and Andrew Joslyn Acoustic Set
w/ Chris Bauer <----------------------------------------------------- Filthy Fairhaven Dude
All Ages!!! FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7:00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes. Filthy Fairhaven Dude. And Adam, the band's manager, came up with that one all by himself. I didn't even tell him to write that :) So you should all come out. It's free, and there'll be lots of good music.
In other news, I've voted (by means of absentee ballot, as I'm not registered to vote in this county), and you all should too, if you haven't already. Let's keep our country from being overtaken yet again by that asshole that is George Bush. The longevity and respect of our country - as well as the well-being of other countries - depend on it.
Take care, guys, and hopeuflly I'll see you at the show.
20 October 2004
Well, a lot has happened since last I updated, I suppose. I've gotten settled in at uni, been playing open mics at the campus coffeehouse every week (except last night when I saw Flogging Molly (!!!) in Seattle), and played a show there (at the coffeehouse, that is), as well. I also played an open mic in the Fairhaven main building a couple weeks ago, which was really cool, and got a pretty good response.
Other than that, I've basically just been partying it up, trying to get through school, and trying to enjoy it as best I can. Had a little heart break recently and now just listen to sad music and walk around always looking like I'm about to cry. But at least I got a song out of it :) Hopefully sometime I'll get a chance to do a rough recording and get it up on the site, but no promises, eh. I'm a busy man, you know. Anyway, any questions or just want to say hello, shoot me an e-mail (as my good friend John-Luke would say). I'd love to hear from you.
- Christopher
Postscript: Hallow's Eve is coming up quite fast, and I still have no idea who/what I should be. If you have any suggestions, please tell me. I need some help here!
22 September 2004
So it's been a while. Though I doubt many people read this anyway. But uh.... So I'm all moved into my dorm up here at Western. My roommate is nice and we have a bitchin' pad, as it were. I would post photos, but I don't have access to a digital camera now I've moved. I'm looking into playing the open mic here at the Underground Coffeehouse on campus, but it's unclear as to when they're doing it. Still trying to get a hold of the proper people for it. No other news, really, aside from that. Write to me. Send me some e-mail or snail mail or something (e-mail me for an address at which you can reach me nowadays). I like mail :)
31 August 2004
Last Sunday, Elliott and I played the Red and Black open mic. I found that they had redone the walls in the bathroom and made them into a big chalkboard for everyone to write on. So I left the most appropriate quotation:
Behind some doors, people are waiting to sparkle. - SidArthur
Haw.
19 August 2004
This Saturday and Sunday I will be doing a couple of solo sets at the Uptown Village Festival in Vancouver, as well as playing extensively with Pangur Ban. My good friend Elliott will also be along to do a set on Saturday. Check out the Shows section for the details.
11 August 2004
Last night I got together with my good friend Elliott Bennett, musician extrordinaire, to jam and just have a good old time. We ended up completing a song we began composing a few weeks ago, and let me tell you, it's hot. We have a rough recording of it, but I'm not putting it online -- yet. You gotta show me you want it. Of course my guess is that no one will read this, be interested, and respond, but if you do, you just might get to hear this great song. Drop me a line and tell me how much you care.
By the way, the Pangur Ban gig at Becock Music was really great. Maybe our best yet. There's a photo up in the Photos section, so go check it out.
03 August 2004
I now have a site on PureVolume.com for my music and such. It can be found here. "The End of a Nonexistent Romance" is still available, as well as a new, unreleased song. It's a bit of a departure from my usual writing style, and, despite it's simple lyrics, I'm rather proud of it. Please check it out and let me know what you think. And now there is a place for discussion such as this!
I've also created a LiveJournal community precisely for that purpose of discussing my music and other things related to me and my art, as well as anything else you'd like to talk about. Please go join and say what's on your mind.
In other news, as I'm moving to university in about a month and a half, I've begun investigating my options for places to play open mics and get gigs up in Bellingham. Turns out my school itself has a rad on-campus coffeehouse that has weekly open mics. It seems the turnout can be rather good, and they also offer many musicians who play the open mics to be acts in paying concerts they do up to twice weekly. And to add to that, the girl with whom I have corresponded (who co-runs the place) is really really nice. And I can't wait to start playing there. I think it will be a very comfortable performance atmosphere.
So, if any of you are familiar with the Bellingham, Washington area and know of other venues for open mics or gigs, please drop me a line and let me know. Until then, take care, everyone.
- Christopher
20 July 2004
Yes friends, it is true. For the first time in months, I have written and completed a song!! Sure, over the past few months I've come up with bits of songs here and there, but never finished a whole one until now. I've just layed down a rough recording of it, and plan to mix it in a day or two. Hopefully soon I can have it up on the site (if there's space -- by the way, if anyone is willing to host my page or some of my files at least....that would be reaaaaally cool...), so then all you fine people can hear it.
This is me excited. Woo.
28 June 2004
After fifteen years of schooling (yeah, add Kindergarten and two years of pre-school to those 12, smartypants), I, Christopher Bauer, graduated from the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics on Thursday, June seventeenth. This coming September, I will be leaving for university, though sad it will be to leave Portland. However, I will not be far off. I will be leaving for Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, where I plan to study music while obtaining a well-rounded liberal arts education. I hope that college will treat me well and that I will have a much greater time than I did in high school. Please wish me luck in this next chapter of my life.*
In other news, the first t-shirt has been designed. Soon, the image will be applied to a silkscreen and the first shirts will be printed. At the moment there is not a photo to post, but when there is, it will be located in the Merch section along with ordering information.
If you did not notice on the main page, the first run of The Failing Pedestrian E.P. had a flaw in the tracklist: the third track, in fact, is "Waltz for Nichole", while "The Times You Don't Even Try" is the fourth. This will be corrected in later copies, thus making the flawed ones rare ones. You may hang on to it and make big bucks on it in a few years' time, or if you are bent on having a proper version, I will gladly exchange it for a corrected copy.
Also, as some of you may know, I am also an amateur photographer. I may, eventually, start a separate section of the site for my visual art. Don't expect this anytime soon, though.
Lastly, I play open mics at the Red and Black Caf and Haven Coffee in Portland rather frequently. Please do come out and hear me. If you're interested and would like to know if I will be there when you wish to go, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] to find out. Also, the Celtic band in which I play guitar, The Pangur Ban Ceili Band, has a number of gigs lined up for the summer. One of the largest and most public is at the Grant House on Officers' Row in Vancouver on July 4th. We will be playing all day, from about noon to 6:00. It will be a huge event for the band and a great deal of fun. Please come out, give us a listen, and have some fun. I hope to see you there.
XO,
Chris
