Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

For: Playstation 2

I got Prince of Persia because I liked what I saw in the commercials, and I was interested in playing it. I also liked the idea of controlling time. It's a cool game, though kinda short.

In the game, You are the Prince (his name is not given). While conquering an enemy kingdom, you find a dagger that will later allow you to control time. Later, while on a diplomatic mission, you are tricked by the evil Vizier into releasing the Sands of Time. This turns everyone in the palace into monsters, except for three people (Prince, Vizier, and Farrah, who is the princess of the conquered kingdom). You are on a mission to find the Hourglass that will contain the sands. For most of the game, you are aided by Farrah. Not the most elaborate story, but it does a good job. I liked the fact that the game is actually Prince telling the story of what happened.

One of the cool points of this game is definitely the graphics. This game has very detailed graphics. And, of course, the time control feature is a nice touch. There are five ways to control time (which you would know if you saw the commercials). The one i used the most is rewind. In other words, you get in trouble, turn back the time.

The fight scenes are cool, especially is you know the moves. Some of the things you do get played like a scene, which i liked. You must keep the dagger handy in case you run into trouble. You must absorb the enemies into the dagger to keep them from getting up again. This powers up your dagger with sand, which you use for time contol abilities.

Prince of Persia is more of a puzzle game rather than action. There is fighting, and defeating enemies is an important part. However, most of the game centers around where to go next, and figutring out how to get there. All of the game (except for the beginning) takes place in the palace, which is like a complex maze. You will have to avoid traps, battle monsters, climb places, pull levers, and basically figure the game out.

The most dissapointing thing about the game is how short it is. It took me less than a week to beat it. However, when you beat it, the original Prince of Persia is unlocked, so that should keep you busy for a while. Other negative things include the sluggish movement (though it's not a really big problem), and that the last boss is very easy to beat. Actually, the last boss is the only boss, if you count out the King, who appears early in the game. To sum it up, this game is perhaps too easy.

Overall, I'd say that the good points outweigh the bad. I recomment that you give Prince of Persia a try, but keep in mind that it's mostly about the puzzle solving.
