This letter is from a GI Surgeon on the 31st October 1996 to the Head of the GP Practice.
"Mrs. Stewart was back at the clinic today with her son. We had a long chat about Mrs. Stewart's problems and I have to say that I am not convinced there is an organic problem that we can do anything about in Mrs. Stewart's case. Much of the discomfort seems to come from the son's insistence that there is a problem. On going over her medication and her treatment today, I found myself quite unable to see a way forward. I suggested that we try discontinuing her Stemetil as I am not sure that she is actually having sickness or nausea and the best I could get from her son today was that she has "churning" of her stomach from time to time. I have suggested to him that this might in fact not be a particularly pathological problem and that it is very difficult for us to imagine a surgical operation that is going to make it better.
