OTTAWA SUN, 2000

He's been known to bring rotting roadkill as a "gift" and she's not shy about baring her breasts on national TV.

The only question is how crazy will nutty Ottawa funnyman Tom Green and sultry starlet Drew Barrymore's wedding be.

The couple's publicists last night both confirmed the pair plan to tie the knot.

"Yes, it's true," Green's rep Ann Gurrola said. "They are definitely engaged."

Only weeks ago Tinseltown was abuzz with rumours the pair were on the rocks.

But the Colonel By High School alumnus turned internationally-known shock comic proposed a few days ago.

The couple began dating in January after the 28-year-old prankster moved from New York to Los Angeles to work on MTV's Tom Green Show -- the offshoot of his one-time work at Rogers Community 22 locally.

Barrymore called to ask Green if he was interested in a cameo role in her Charlie's Angels big-screen remake and they dined together following the shoot.

"There seemed to be a thing between us -- I asked her out," Green later told US Weekly. "It was all pretty unbelievable to me."

But their bliss was shattered within weeks when Green was diagnosed with testicular cancer last March.

Barrymore -- who was catapulted to fame at the age of seven in the film blockbuster E.T. -- stood by her man during the rough span.

Although they'd only been an item for three months, Green listed Barrymore as the sole recipient of his sperm sample prior to his surgery -- which cost him his right testicle and lymph nodes.

The outrageous pair then attended the Academy Awards together only days after suffering through the painful procedure.

"It was an interesting way to get to know a girlfriend," he later lamented.

Now cured, the gross-out comedian soon after established a special fund to raise cash and awareness for the disease and had MTV capture the surgery on film for his show.

A month earlier, Green captivated the capital when he arrived with ex-White House intern and pal Monica Lewinsky for a publicity stunt.

It'll be the second marriage for Barrymore, who once flashed her breasts while on the air with talk-show host David Letterman. She wed Jeremy Thomas in 1994 -- they divorced after a year -- and has been linked with movie actors Luke Wilson and Val Kilmer.

Green -- who thanked late-night CTV comic Mike Bullard for an invite to his program with a maggot-filled raccoon -- most recently appeared in the Hollywood hit Road Trip.

A wedding date has not been set yet.
