Oil: Rose

Properties: Smells as sweet as the flower. Has an uplifting, positive effect.

Actions: Used for stress, depression, headaches or insomnia. Rose is excellent for the skin, particulary wrinkles, puffiness, broken veins and dryness.

Home uses: Massage, baths, inhalation.  Since the smell gives a feeling of happiness and pleasure, as well as being romantic, it is an excellent oil to scent a room.  Use it for a facial or full body massages and add ten drops to the bath to relieve a headache or hangover, or to recover from a hard day.

Warning: Perfectly safe for home use as long as it is well diluted before application.

Oil: Rosemary

Properties: Has a fresh, green, woody mint smell and is antiseptic, stimulating, astringent, invigorating and cleansing.

Actions: Used for headaches, breathing problems, fluid retention, poor circulation or dandruff.

Home uses: Massage, baths, inhalation.  It is particularly useful as a warming body massage for any muscular aches, or as a head and scalp massage for greasiness, lack of concentration or headaches.  Add to the bath as a pick-me-up for mental or physical tiredness.  Inhale it for coughs, bronchitis and other breathing problems.

Warning: Rosemary oil is perfectly safe for home use as long as it is well diluted before application.  However, do not use it during pregnancy or if you have epilepsy(or if you are giving a massage to someone suffering from the condition.

Oil: Rosewood

Properties: Has a sweet, floral, woody smell and is soothing, healing, deodorising,relaxing,tonic,calming, and gently sensual.

Actions: Most useful for any skin problems, from acne, scars and wrinkles to dull dry complexions.  It is an intimate, deeply relaxing oil.

Home uses: Massage, baths, inhalation.  From a full body massage to a facial, it benefits both skin and mood in one clean sweep.  Added to the bath it helps round out other oils and is liked by both men and women equally.  It also makes an excellent, intimate, relaxing room scent.

Oil: Sage(Clary)

Properties: Has a green, balsamic, aromatic smell and is mildly antiseptic, an uplifting tonic, warming and relaxing.

Actions: Useful for PMT and menstrual cramps, for depression,fatigue, stress, headaches and skin inflammations or irritations.

Home uses: Massage, baths.  A few drops in the bath soothes backache, pains and sprains, cramps, itchy skin and will leave you energised.  It is good for face, neck and scalp massages to help banish headaches and tension.

Oil: Sandalwood

Properties:   Has a deep fruity-sweet woody smell and is antiseptic, astringent, relaxing, sedative and regarded as an aphrodisiac.

Actions: Used for insomnia, tension, stress, depression, loss of libido, emotional problems and cracked or chapped skin.  It is also a good expectorant for coughs and colds.

Home uses: Massage, baths, inhalation, compress.  A few drops in a hot bath makes one of the most soothing and sensual soaks that will cleanse both body and mind. It makes the most relaxing body massage and is particulary good for any patches of rough, dry skin.  Inhaled with steam or as a poultice it clears congestion.

Oil: Spruce

Properties: Has a clean fresh, sweet, balsamic smell and is antiseptic, warming, astringent, soothing, calming and relaxing.

Actions: Used for sprains, stiffness and pain, poor circulation, cellulite, rheumatism and for coughs or colds, and to reduce anxiety and stress.

Home use: Massage, baths, inhalation, poultice.  Apply on a hot poultice or dilute and use as a linament to rub into stiff, aching muscles.  It makes a warming winter massage for feet and legs, to boost the circulation, tone and reduce cellulite.  In the bath it has a soothing, sedative effect and is pleasantly relaxing.  Inhaled with steam, it helps you sleep through the congestion that comes with a bad cold.
