| Oil: Laurel Properties: Has a strong medicinal smell with a warm spicy edge. It is relaxing, warming, antiseptic and good for boosting the immune system. Actions: Useful for aches and pains, period cramps or fluid retention. If you constantly suffer from colds, flu or viral infections, it is useful to strenghthen resistance. Home uses: Massage, inhalation,poultice. Place some oil in a dish of hot water on a bedroom radiator to help dispel viral infections or inhale the steam by bending over a basin of hot water. Use for massage to relieve PMT, fluid retention, aches or any chest complaints. Warning: Laurel should be used in moderation and well diluted as it can irritate sensetive skin. It should not be used during pregnancy. Oil: Lavender Properties: One of the most commonly used oils. It is both relaxing and stimulating, a powerful antiseptic and healer, and it calms ,refreshes, invigorates and lifts the spirits. Actions: It is excellent for tension, tiredness or depression, skin problems and aches or pains.Good for panic and anxiety attacks. Because it is so gentle, it may be applied undiluted to burnt skin or insect bites, and is safe to use during pregnancy. Home uses: Massage, baths, inhalation,poultice, compress. A few drops in a hot bath will make you feel pleasantly drowsy and relieve anxiety. In a cool bath, it will refresh and energise. Inhale a few drops from a tissue to clear the head and lift your spirits. In massage, it is good for tense muscles or mental fatigue. Warning: Lavender essential oil is perfectly safe for home use. Oil: Lemon Properties: Has a tangy, fresh, citrus smell and is stimulating, invigorating, astringent, deodorising, diuretic and antiseptic. Actions: Useful for clearing the head, for energising an aching body, for boosting circulation, treating cellulite or warming hands and feet. Home uses: Massage, baths, inhalation, poultice. A few drops in a hot bath will boost your circulation. Inhale it from atissue to help tiredness or to relieve the symptoms of a cold. Use on a cloth to disinfect or deodorise around the home. Warning: Lemon essential oil should be used in moderation as it may irritate skin, especially if exposed to sunshine after application. Store in a cool dark place. Oil: Lemongrass Properties: Has a warm grassy smell and is soothing, healing, invigorating, antiseptic, anti-bacterial and deodorising. Actions: Most useful for open pores, boils, athlete's foot, excess perspiration, headaches, poor circulation and as an insect repellent. Home uses: Massage, baths, inhalation, poultice, compress. Diluted well and massaged directly onto inflamed skin, armpits, feet and hands, it will boost the circulation, speed healing and deodorise. Apply oil directly to curtain hems to repel insects. A few drops in a footbath will warm the extremeties and reduce sweating. Warning: Lemongrass is perfectly safe for home use as long as it is well diluted. Oil: Lime Properties: Has a sharp, sweet citrus peel smell and is antiseptic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and is a good warming stimulant and tonic. Actions: Useful for greasy skin, varicose veins, arthritis, rheumatism, poor circulation, cellulite, breathing problems, colds,flu, fever or infection. Home uses: Massage, bath, inhalation, poultice. It is good for a leg, anti-cellulite or warming friction massage, or diluted and rubbed into chest for colds, or as an astringent facial. It makes an excellent warming bath in winter, or a refreshing, energising bath in the summer. It can be applied as a poultice for fever or inhaled for any breathing problems or congestion.
