Networking
the ePods

Since
the pool of shared information will increase over time, this section will
be updated periodically. If you determine that a particular card works or
doesn't work,
your discovery, and I'll add the information here. |

General
Information, Requirements & Resources:
|
Discussion.
The most up-to-date available information can be found on Ken Segler's
famous I-Appliance
Discussion Board. Check it daily (or, if you're life is lacking,
more than once a day) for the latest news.
Guidelines.
Speaking of the Discussion Board, "jkgamer" provided
these incredibly useful general guidelines for determining whether a particular
LAN card will work:
- must be
a PCMCIA network card
- ePods
can only handle 10Mbps or less (not the faster 100Mbps)
- true NE2000
compatible or Proxim wireless types should work
- if not
NE2000 or Proxim types, the card MUST have Windows CE drivers
- drivers
must be MIPS compatible
- drivers
must be installed to the ePods \windows subdirectory
Resources.

Specific questions or pleas for help should be directed to those individuals
there.

Browsing
the Big Hard Drive:
|
Browse
your desktop's C drive when using a LAN card. Two methods have been
described so far, one by "New2CE"
and another by "Glitch".
New2CE says to simply use Filestor.exe and enter the path \Desktop\C
to access the desktop hard drive. Glitch recommends using the "net"
command in the Command shell (the program named "cmd.exe"
in the ePods \windows subdirectory): "'Desktop' is the name
of your desktop machine, and the shares will show up in the NETWORK folder."
A few critical commands using this method:
- [\]
net view Desktop (to see what can be shared)
- [\]
net use DskTp-C //Desktop/C (to set up the share called "DskTp-C")
- [\]
net use (to display the active shares)
