1993: Myst. An incredible, immersive experience which drew you
into a world like no other.
1999: Myst Masterpiece Edition. A return to the classic with better
visuals and sound than ever before.
2000: realMyst. The adventure becomes real, with the classic remade
for the first time in realtime 3D.
Now: Prepare yourself for the ultimate Myst adventure...
Eat_My_Shortz' Relto is proud to bring you exclusive information about
Cyan's latest project. ultimateMyst is bound to once again take
Myst players back to that alluring island for one final adventure.
But this time, it will be more immersive and believable than ever.
The idea for ultimateMyst came about in 2000, before realMyst
was even completed, when Richard A. "RAWA" Watson, in one of
his emails
to the Lyst, was discussing the gameplay-realworld differences of the
prison boks in Myst. While Myst (and its remakes) had several
technical problems relating to the trap books, RAWA jokingly assured fans:
Don't worry, we'll fix it in "ultimateMYST: the 'See Sirrus
and Achenar's Prison Ages' Edition". (Settle down, it's just a joke. :)

It may have been "just a joke" then, but now Cyan looks set
to wow fans once more, as they transport you back to Myst island
for a more historically accurate experience.
Of course, players have since already travelled to the prison ages of
Spire and Haven in Myst IV: Revelation.
But Cyan thinks they'll have enough new material to make them a worthy
addition to the original game.
Here is the game's full list of features:
- Inclusion of two new Ages: Spire and Haven, as they were twenty years
before Revelation.
- All new and re-filmed footage of Sirrus and Achenar, played by Revelation
actors Brian Wrench and Guy Sprung.
- Rand Miller returns as Atrus, who will also have new lines and scenes
in the extended game.
- All of the original Ages from Myst, including Rime from realMyst,
for an incredible total of nine full Ages!
- Incredible breathtaking 3D graphics, raytraced in realtime for the
first time ever. This means fully dynamic shadows and lighting, realistic
reflections, and perfectly textured and shaped objects, making up the
entire world.
- Never-before-seen interactivity. Have you always wondered what those
glowing gems do in Mechanical Age? How about all of those innocent-looking
bottles in Sirrus' drawers? Now you can find out - every object in the
world is fully useable!
- The Myst V: End of Ages physics engine will be advanced with
new concepts such as ragdoll physics. Also, all of the linking books
have been reprogrammed using the Quantum physics engine to actually
simulate real-world linking.
- New content in every corner! ultimateMyst contains new recorded
messages on the imager, new unburnt journals on the bookshelf, exploration
of many more huts in Channelwood, and finally, after all these years,
the ability to leave the room on K'veer and explore D'ni from that starting
point.
Needless to say, Cyan are very hopeful about this new look at the classic
game. It will be very exciting to see how it pans out.
