REMOVAL OF FOREIGN BODIES

     From the ear

Syringe or pour the ear with slightly warm water, or incline the ear to remove the object through gravitation.
If either of these methods is ineffectual, have the patient consult a physician after climbing.
Do not apply force to extract an object embedded in the ear. The result maybe an injury to the drum or to the tissues surrounding the object, or the object may be pushed even deeper into the ear. Unskilled manipulation may produce a swelling that makes removal extremely difficult.

From the eye
Evert the eyelids, and after locating the object carefully pick it out with some soft material or wash it out with warm water, using an eye dropper (if available) to avoid force.
After the removal, irrigate the eye with warm water.
Remember that great care must be exercised in removing any foreign body from the eye, even though the object is small and is not embedded in the cornea or the conjunctiva, since there is always the risk of local infection.
Leave to a physician the removal of any object that has become embedded in the substance of the eye itself. Permanent injury may be the result of an unskilled manipulation. While still in the mountains, just clean and cover the affected eye and seek medical assistance at once.

From the nose
In most cases, foreign bodies such as beans, buttons, peas, pebbles that are accidentally put into the nostrils can be removed by assisting him to blow his nose.
Animate objects, such as insects or worms, that have gained access to the nasal cavity can usually be removed by a nasal douche. So let us stress again the importance of choosing a tent with meshed window and door to avoid this while we are sleeping.
If inflammation and infection are present, the condition should be treated by a physician only.

From the larynx or pharynx
Removal must be left to a physician.Sometimes the foreign body may enter the trachea and lodge there or pass into one of the smaller air passages of the lung.
Two dangers are present if a foreing body is in these organs:asphyxia from obstruction of the air passages and infection. The condition is critical and the action is urgent.
