PCOS And Depression
During the battle with my weight there have been several Medical issues that have surfaced.  The two most noticeable problems that have occured are PCOS and Depression.

One thing that I have learned during my research is that Depression is actually a side effect of the PCOS.  PCOS stands for Poly-Cystic Ovary Syndrome.  I was very surprised to learn that PCOS was diagnosed as early as the 1930's, but due to the lack of knowledge about how the female system works it was not really something that was a concern.  Often times it was reffered to as "Women's Troubles"

Now with our advanced research methods, PCOS is estimated to effect several millions of women to some degree.  The major symptoms of PCOS are depression, weight gain, excess hair (often facial in a male pattern), acne, and irregular or lack of periods.

Even though I showed all of the major syptoms it wasn't untill this year that I was finally diagnosed with PCOS and started on treatment for it.  It is hoped that after I have WLS my symptoms will decrease.  There is no real cure for PCOS, but it is possible to alleviate many of the symptoms by maintaining a healthy life style.
