| The Journey Begins |
| In mid May I made my appointment for my consultation with Dr. Christine Gupta of Carmel Surgical Specialists. Her and her partners operate out of Carmel St. Vincent's Bariatric Treatment Unit, one of the largest of it's kind in the United States. After having to reschedule once due to a work conflict I finally had a consultation date of August 8, 2003. During that time, I made an appointment with my Family Pysician to have my yearly check up and make sure everything was okay with me otherwise. This was on July 11, 2003 and went off without a hitch. I was even told that they would have referred me to the same surgery group that I already had my appointment with. Finally the awaited day arrived and I had my WLS consult with Dr. Gupta on August 8, 2003. The appointment went very smoothly and there were no unexpected glitches. The way the consultation is done was a little unique but that is quite alright with me. You first meet with the Doctor as a group for a 45 minute information session and then you meet with the Doctor one on one to ask any individual questions. Dr. Gupta was very nice and extremely to the point about the workings of WLS. Approximately two weeks after my consultation with Dr. Gupta I received all the paper work to send to my insurance company. Then on August 29, 2003 I had my psychiatric eval to make sure that I am ready for the surgery mentally. As soon as I left I mailed the results of the evaluation on to my insurance company as well. One week later I was approved for surgery. I am now waiting for surgery, it will be performed at Carmel St. Vincent's Hospital on December 17, 2003 at 2:00 pm. |
