Habakkuk, chapter 2
(1) I will stand and watch. I will continue to look out and notice what he will tell me and what he will answer to my complaint. (2) Then the LORD replied, "Write down the Revelation and explain it so that it can be quickly understood. (3) For the Revelation awaits its appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. It may take some time, but wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay." (The following verses tell us that our destructive civilization produces nothing but victims. Even people who seem to gain from the evil policies that run the world become victims of emotional problems, drugs, crime, environmental disasters and revolutions, the results of exaggerated greed leading to social imbalance.)
(4) A corrupt soul becomes weak and depressed. The righteous however lives by his faith. (5) Indeed the arrogant is deceived by wealth, there is no rest for him; for he is as greedy as the grave, and like death he is never satisfied. So he collects all the nations and gets hold of all the peoples. (6) Will they not eventually confront him and speak out against him saying, "These people are doomed, because they pile up stolen goods and make themselves rich charging interest! (Many developing countries have to neglect education and health care, because they have to pay high interest to foreign banks for money borrowed many years ago. Lending money for interest fundamentally contradicts the principles of Judaism-Christianity according to the Torah and is also forbidden by the Koran, see Bible, Exodus 22:25, Leviticus 25:36, Deuteronomy 23:19, Ezekiel 18:8, ff.. Returning to these foundations of our culture is the only chance for humanity to have a future.)
How long must this go on?" (7) Will they not suddenly stand up together to damage you?
(Burying victims of Anglo-American air raids in Iraq 1998)
Will they not wake up to terrify you?
Then you will be their victim! (8) Because you have plundered the people of many nations, all the peoples who are left will plunder you! You have shed human blood, oppressed countries, destroyed cities and all the people living there. (9) People are doomed, if they pile up undeserved profit, (A warning to those who make millions charging interest or gambling at the stock exchanges.)
they will damage their own homes. Can you escape disaster by building your house on a hill? (Excessive wealth for a few produces poverty for the majority, which leads to crime and threat to become a victim. Security efforts cannot make up for this increased risk compared to a society with more social justice.)
(10) You have planned the ruin of many peoples shaming your house and destroying you own soul. (11) The stones of the wall will cry out and the beams of the wooden ceiling will echo it. (12) People are doomed, if they established a kingdom on bloodshed (like the Roman, the British Empire, the Nazi German Third Reich or the current Anglo-American World Empire of Finance and unprecedented Poverty-Holocaust known as "International Community", see Isaiah
42:23, Revelation
14:19.)
and founded a city on crime. (13) Was it not the LORD Almighty who determined that the peoples' labour will be burned up, and that nations shall exhaust themselves for nothing? (It is the essence of our end-time capitalism that an increasing majority works hard without earning adequate value for their effort, because a small minority piles up enormous wealth through interest and financial manipulations. Habakkuk tells the winners of this system that this situation is part of God's general historical plan, which also includes their downfall and punishment.)
(14) The earth will again be filled with knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. (Eventually the many disasters happening today will be understood as a divine punishment, which will lead to the creation of a better world.)
(15) People are doomed, if they humiliated and disgraced their neighbours making them stagger as though they were drunk. (16) You will be disgraced and not respected any more! Now it is your turn to drink and be exposed! The cup from the right hand of the LORD is coming to you and disgrace will cover your glory. (17) The crimes you committed in Lebanon will now come back to haunt you. (Sounds like a special message to Israeli Prime Minister Sharon who used to be involved in most cruel war crimes there. Anyway, this verse has been sufficiently politically incorrect to give rise to forgeries such as: "You have cut down the forests of Lebanon; therefore you will now suffer.)
You have mistreated animals, now they will terrify you. (BSE Mad Cow Disease leading to human brain damage and death and the invasion of Killer Bees, Fireants and Termites in the Southern US shows how nature strikes back for the cruel way animals are being treated in a culture which cares for nothing but money, see Revelation
16:11.)
This will happen, because you have shed human blood, oppressed countries, destroyed cities and all the people living there. (18) What is the use of an idol?
It is only something a person has carved, an image that teaches lies. (The idol of Jesus on the cross teaches the faithful to be glad about his murder with theologians sometimes even celebrating it as a kind of victory, when in fact it was a temporary victory of Satan.)
How can a person trust in something he has made, in idols that cannot speak? (Catholics are particularly bad here worshipping idols of various saints, e.g. the "Virgin" Mary, see Isaiah
44:13,
2:8.)
(19) People are doomed, if they say to a piece of wood, "Come to life!" Or to a dead stone, "Get up!" Can the sculpture teach you anything? It may be covered with Gold and Silver,
there is no sign of life in it.(The bad thing about worshipping pictures is that it can lead to collective insanity: "Christian" idolatry has ultimately made it possible that the whole world now worships money, another artificial god, and the consequences of this religion threaten the survival of humanity. The most rampant case of abusing pictures in human history was Princess Diana. The result: commercially exploited collective worldwide madness, which also lead to the foreseeable death of the worshipped.)
| (20) But the LORD is in his holy temple; let the whole world be silent before him. |
