Education Celebrate summer's end by signing up for Sharon Maxwell's Holiday Strawberry class. This strawberry will be stitched over one on 32 count with a ribbon top. The date is Saturday, August 23rd, at the Shawnee Library, 13811 Johnson Drive. The price is $12.00 and class size will be capped at 20. The time has been set fro 10:00 to 3:00 with a break for lunch at noon. Can't make it to class? Well don't despair, because Sharon has also graciously agreed to make 10 extra kits to sell to any members unable to attend the festivities. Fall/Winter Education Opportunity: Our next upcoming Saturday educational opportunity is PUNCH NEEDLE. This upcoming class has now been set for Saturday, June 13th, from 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM at the Cornith Library. The address is 8100 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS. Ms. Sandi Nolte will be teaching us this technique. She has prepared an original design for our kits. It is a very adorable brightly colored flower. Price for the class is $10 if you need a punch needle and $5 if you choose to bring your own punch needle. See Sandi for sign up, payment and other supply needs during the April meeting as Rebecca and Jo Carol will be attending the Springtime in the Valley Seminar. PLEASE NOTE: Sandi has graciously agreed to offer extra kits containing ONLY the pattern and material for purchase, during and after the class on June 13th. Rebecca Pruckler and Jo Carol Johnson Traveling Teacher Notes I recently had the opportunity to meet Jane Timmers, who designs and teaches under the name Fancy Work. Jan began designing in 1990 and began publishing her designs under the Fancy Work name in 1994. Most of her designs are based on sewing accessories (necessities) and motifs of the past, from Elizabethan costumes, samplers from the 16th, 17th, & 18th centuries, and Victorian and Edwardian accessories. Jane and I have been corresponding for over a year about the possibility of her coming to teach a weekend workshop for our chapter. Jane has agreed to come to Kansas City sometime next year; she is currently looking at new design possibilities for a project for us. Jane's designs usually do not involve difficult stitches and techniques; her concentration is mainly on the finishing of the projects. She has already given me one suggestion for a project that I think will be a very nice one for our group. I will report more details as they become available to me. Meanwhile, you can see some of her teaching pieces at her blog site: http://fancyworkbyjane.blogspot.com , or at her website: http://fancywork.net. After working as your chapter's traveling teacher coordinator for the past eight years, I have decided that it is time to let someone else take over. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and working with all the great designer/teachers who have taught for us during this time. Deborah Powell has agreed to take over my duties; and she and I will work together for the next several months, after which she will be in charge! Deborah will do a wonderful job and all us in the Santa Fe Trail Chapter; and I thank her for stepping forward and volunteering. Sandy Romanoski |
