In this section is dedicated to my reflections on the coursework that
prompted me to prepare this professional portfolio.
My
professional portfolio is a work in process that will become more detailed as I
grow. I plan to continue to revise my portfolio as my educational goals and my
employment status changes. My portfolio shows my desire to create materials that
are helpful to my students. As an educational advisor, I have to create lessons
and materials that assist my students in reaching post-secondary training. I
explain my desire to be a teacher in my philosophy of teaching statement. I
realize I am a beginning teacher, and I try to make this point evident in my
portfolio. I want those viewing my portfolio to understand that I am just
beginning my career, and I am trying to grow to be the best teacher I can be. I
hope to use this portfolio to gain a teaching job, and after meeting that goal,
I will eventually seek National Board Certification.
In preparing this portfolio, I had to learn many items about portfolios and web
design. I enjoyed selecting and reflecting on the artifacts to be placed in my
portfolio. They represent the skills I have used on the past two years at
Educational Talent Search. It also shows the skills I learned in my
undergraduate degree. My portfolio is far from finished; at the same time that
phrase also describes me as I am growing as a teacher.

While modifying my
portfolio for another class, I realized how a person changes in just a year. My
philosophy of education has stayed the same, but I have learned more valuable
skills to add to my tool belt. I knew many *hints* about making successful
tests, but I finally decided to take them to heart. I started noticing that the
tests I had to take, did not match the rules I was learning. It motivated me to
do better for my students. It might not make the tests easier to pass, but at
least it will be easier for them to take. I also really enjoy creating and
working with this portfolio.
