23 juin 2001:      Engine measurements 2,

CLICK 2 CCLICK 2 CThis problem of 78cc makes consider to mill the heads to reduce the chambers volume. But there is a concern on the seats of intake valves which can be touched in case of excessive milling. So I decide to take measurements of the distance between the deck surface and the valves.

SUMMARY CHART of all measurements of the engine

According to these data, the stock CR is about 7.85.
The modifications I plan to do, are to use a thinner head gasket with a volume of 3.2cc
and especially changing the pistons for domed pistons.
Stock Pistons are dish shaped with a volume of +18cc.
The Claimer's pistons H3423 are domed and push a -14cc volume.
The new theorical CR with chamber at 75cc must be 11.24

June the 28th 2001: Claimer's pistons arrived !

I found on the Web an honest and competent retailer who provides me these H3423 pistons
that Doug Herbert had forgotten to send me (but not to charge on my credit card, nice isn't it?)
I order him also a pair of thin head gaskets FELPRO1094 replacing the missing pair.

One of the endless worries for a handyman is to have not enough tools, but he manages
by making his own tools with a bit of shrewdness.
Despite the buying of a polishing set "non-dremel" (more cheap), I am not very happy with
the result of the chamber polishing...

Cleaning up my workshop I discover those feet
to nail under chairs,
I cut circles in an
old abrasive band that
I glue on the foot with double-face adhesive tape for carpet.
I have the perfect
tool for polish the
combustion chambers.

So, the polishing of the left head combustion chambers is now complete.

The comparison with the right head leads me to that conclusion:
I have to better the polishing of the intake ports and chambers of the right head.
By doing, one gets some experience that makes think that the early polishings look not so done.

I have also to measure the polished chambers volumes and the dome volume of the pistons H3423.

Claimer claims it at 14cc ;o).With these datas, I will calculate the exact CR and can decide if I mill the heads or not.
