6/9/08 - Hi, thank you for visiting our site! I just wanted to post a very IMPORTANT reminder about putting identification on your pets. Please, we have received pets at our shelter that were obviously loved, trained and important to someone, but they had no identification on their collars and we had no way of finding the owner. Please please please, put an ID tag on your pet. It increases their chances of coming back to you by 99%! If we receive your pet at the shelter with a rabies tag or a tag with an address and/or phone number you will be notified and called immediately. With nothing, we can not call you or let you know that we have him or her. I don't want this to happen. These pets deserve to be back with their owners and all it takes is a collar and a tag, a total cost of maybe 5 dollars. Please, put a tag on your pet. If you have lost a pet, pets can travel far, call shelters in different states, go to lost pet websites and post that he is lost, put up posters, these things will improve your chances of getting your pet back home. Thank you for reading this important message!

5/15/08 - Spring is here! Along with spring, comes what we call "Kitten Season." During this time of the year, we get many kittens at our shelter. Sometimes, but not as often, we get puppies also. I just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that kittens and puppies are not only fun, but a lot of work (especially puppies). During this time, amazing adult animals tend to get passed by for the younger ones. When you adopt an adult animal, they are already fixed, we already have an idea about their personality and, for the most part (dogs sometimes have accidents!), they are house trained. Adopting an adult animal is a great idea for any family and I want everyone to consider this before going out and looking for that kitten or puppy. We have a bunch of friendly, cuddly, cute and handsome adult cats and dogs. They need a home just as much as the kittens and puppies and often stay at our shelter much longer (if not their whole lives) than kittens or puppies. Please consider this as you look for your next best friend! Happy looking! :)

2/10/08 - Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Thanks to all of the wonderful people that came to adopt a new friend before the holidays! Many of our cats were adopted. We still have some though! Some are older and since many people want the younger kitties, they get passed by. They are great cats, however. If someone is out there looking for a nice quiet older cat (or a fiesty one!) that still has many wonderful years left, please stop by for a visit! We have announced the date for our annual Rabies Clinic. It will be held at the Primrose Fire Station on Providence Pike in North Smithfield on March 29th, 2008. Vaccinations will be $10 each and it will run from 1pm to 2:30pm. See you there!

11/27/07 - We have many cats right now looking for homes for the holidays. These cats are great, the right person just hasn't come along yet. We do not adopt out as Christmas presents, but if you want to give one more cat a home before the holidays, please stop by! It has been announced that we will be having another candy bar sale at the Stop and Shop in North Smithfield on Febuary 3rd, 2008. Super Bowl Sunday!! Please stop by, say hi, and grab some candy for Valentine's Day.

11/15/07 - Sorry about the lack of updates to the News page, with all the kitties and doggies it is hard to keep up! On Saturday, Novemeber 17th, 2007, the volunteers will be at the Stop and Shop in North Smithfield selling candy bars to raise money for the shelter. The candy bars will make great holiday gifts! Please come visit us!

2/20/03 - A Rabies Clinic will be held on Saturday, March 29th from 1:00 - 2:30 at the Primrose Fire Station on Providence Pike in N. Smithfield. The price is $10.00, cash only. Your dogs must be leashed and cats must be in cat carriers. Hope to see you there!

12/18/02 - The recent candy bar fundraiser held at Stop and Shop in North Smithfield was a success. The proceeds from the sale will provide food, medicine, and other supplies for the animals awaiting adoption at the North Smithfield Animal Control Center. We are planning another candy bar sale again in late January or early February. Thanks to all who supported us!

12/8/02 - Today is the candy bar sale at Stop and Shop from 9:00am-3:00pm. The proceeds benifit the North Smithfield Volunteer Services for Animals.
