EKMHA Executive Meeting held July 4, 2001 7:30 pm at Port Williams School

Members present: Brian Rhodenizer, Tim Ciappara, John Curry, Mary Lou Conrad, Jim Murphy, Mike Roger, Susan Surette-Draper, Dave Duncan, Peter Hayes, Phil Outerlays, George Curry. Scott Barkhouse attended to present his plan for the AAA Pee Wee team.

Meeting commenced at 7:35 pm.

Agenda was distributed and reviewed. Budget was added under New Business.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Motioned by Susan S-D.; Seconded by Mike R. - motion carried.

Business from the Minutes

Canteen: no new news. Tim advised that we were welcome to have the canteen, but we need to work out details of operation. Stephanie Curry and Cathy Curry were suggested contacts for consultation about its operation. Tim was asked to contact Dave Morton to arrange a meeting to iron out plans.

Presentation to Wolfville Recreation. George acquired necessary documents to complete for grant application. The application deadline was February. Jim suggested we submit anyway. If no funds were made available this year, at least Wolfville Recreation would be advised to consider in upcoming years. $5.00 per child and/or up to 20% of facility rental may be awarded through the grant. Carrie will be givent he paperwork to complete and send in since she has been instrumental in acquiring funding from county sources.

Brian reported briefly on the HNS AGM. Minutes of this meeting are available on the HNS website.

Kentville will offer AAA Atom. John Wagstaff will be the coach.

Water Bottles will cost approx. $3.00 each and will be included in the registration fee. Each child will be given one either at registration or by team managers.

New Business

Scott Barkhouse presented his plan for the AAA Pee Wee programme. Scott played elite hockey until college. He has coached for 5 years. Last year participating in practices with the Midget AAA and Acadia hockey teams. Scott has collected some individuals to assist him in coaching and running effective practices. Tryouts will likely take place in August at Greenwood and Acadia. A selection committee will evaluate players.

The Association will run an ad in the Advertiser about tryout dates, times and location.

Budget

Attached (.gif) There will be a $25 fee increase. The $12,000 deficit will be covered through fundraising. Moved by John C., Seconded by Mike R. the budge be adopted. - motion carried.

Committee to select coaches

John C. will be organizing this committee in the new couple of weeks. They will take on preparing a Handbook.

Brian will contact Kentville to see if they are planning to offer Midget level. It was thought that either we or they should, not both. We will know then, if we will need a coach for Midget.

An advertisement will be placed to open the door for new coaches.

It is hoped that all coaches will be in place prior to registration.

Summer Mailout

Add:
  • stress the importance of our parents' participation in working at the Bingos.
  • stress importance of individual water bottles
  • include quick reference cards with executive names, responsibilities and contact info
  • include website URL

Put registation form and hockey school form online for people to print and complete. Could speed registration process.

Swap Table Brian will work toward organizing this event.

Other A potential registrant had acquired funding via KidSport. A cheque was made out to EKMHA but the person is actually in the Kentville district. Carrie will rearrange the funding.
