Information
East Bay Kenyukai comprises of three dojos: Alameda, Berkeley, Oakland. Oakland, being the oldest, was established in 1953 and has trained many kenshi (practioneer of kendo), including several members on the US Team for the World Championships. Alameda practices are great crisp early morning practices (9:30~11:30) and rushes the spirit with energy. Berkeley, created to serve the increased demand of Kendo from the University of California, is home to many college students and local residents.

Before one begins to practice Kendo, Miyata-sensei requests that he/she watches a lesson to understand the some of the fundamentals of kendo. Determination and maturity are the first two virtues that an individual needs before beginning, and while practicing Kendo.

With paid membership at any of the three dojos, one can practice at any of them. One can practice five days a week, if desired (though not required), at the East Bay Kenyukai dojos as well as an optional Godo Keiko, the first Sunday of every month.
