ANNUAL DYNAMIC POSITIONING
CONFERENCE
HOUSTON
ANNUAL
DYNAMIC POSITIONING CONFERENCE
SEPTEMBER 16-17, 2003
HOUSTON
Around
200 industry professionals, including delegates from Europe, Asia
and South America, attended this year’s Dynamic Positioning
Conference. The Conference, which was hosted by the DP Committee
of the Marine Technology Society, was held in Houston September
16-17, 2003.
Considered by many to be the most technically strong conference
to date, many delegates praised the pertinent and timely technical
content of the program, which included sessions on DP design and
control, thrusters, environmental issues, power management, sensors,
and DP applied to workboats, FPSOs and shuttle tankers. Complete
proceedings from the Conference are available registered DP 2003
Conference participants through this web
site.
During the Conference, Dietmar Deter, President of Nautex (shown
center right with Committee Chair Howard Shatto (left) and Vice
Chair Chuck Richards) and the recipient of the DP Committee’s
Distinguished Achievement Award, was honored at a luncheon to recognize
his contributions to DP and the industry.
Dietmar Deter, one of the early pioneers in the application of DP
for offshore vessels, has been involved in the development, design
and manufacture of propulsion systems for DP vessels throughout
his career. His many achievements include developing the thrusters
for the world’s first DP oil exploration drillship and the
first DP semisubmersible.
Luncheon presentations on both days of the Conference, an evening
reception and exhibits by international suppliers of DP and related
equipment created a stimulating forum for discussion, exchange of
information and the sharing of knowledge on Dynamic Positioning
technology.
In
addition to the technical program, attendees had the opportunity
to visit with exhibitors and colleagues, relax and exchange ideas
and knowledge at the Cocktail Social on the first evening. Click
