Hill Farm Vineyard began its first planting in the spring of 1999, with the sole intension of crafting the highest quality wines in Southern New England.  The Vineyard Manager, David R. Wright, studied Entomology at the University of Rhode Island and is well trained in the art of winemaking.  His dedication, patience, and perseverance will yield some of the most remarkable wines from the cool crisp climate of Rhode Island.

Nonetheless, the origins of wine are unknown, archaeological evidence suggests that wine was being made at least 8000 years ago, and there are indications that viticulture was carried on in Mesopotamia (the region that is now Iraq and eastern Syria) about 5000 years ago.  The highest-quality wines were reserved for the Egyptian kings and pharaohs, and wine was accepted as payment for taxes.  If you would like to learn more about the history of wine making, please visit www.encarta.com

The Bordeaux region of France is recognized as a premier producer of Bordeaux wine.
