i think someone said
hope is the thing with wings

i thinks hope is the thing that sits by itself in the corner
feeling like a loser,
having a hard time getting up to see the view,
which is obstructed by a fence anyway.

peace is the thing that is caged in the corner of your kitchen
only allowed out once a week,
but not if there are visitors,
and not if it's raining.

old age is the thing that loves to play
when given the right ratio of solitude and boredom,
if you don't brush it too hard,
and if it's not scared by the doorbell.

i think someone said
hope is the thing with wings,
but it needs a mirror
to know itself
to see the truth
to stand on high

i say now
hope is the thing that survives
that climbs the fence,
that aims for peace,
that reaches old age.
