M.F. O'Neil's
 1959 Trip to Ireland

In 1959 my grandfather, Martin F. “Mike” O’Neil retired from the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. as it’s marketing manager. One of the retirement gifts presented to him was a trip to Europe, which included a stop in Galway, Ireland.  All of the records and photos from that trip were lost.

During my recent visit to Ireland, I was lucky enough to meet Mary Finnerty (my half third cousin) who had some pictures from that trip.  These are reproduced below.

(L to R) Mae O’Neil (daughter of Martin), Margaret Fahey, Martin and his wife, Mayme.

Margaret Fahey was the half-sister (they shared the same mother) of Martin’s father, William O’Neil.

(L to R) Mr. Cahill, Delia Cahill (nee Fahey), Martin O’Neil, Margaret Fahey, Mary Finnerty (nee Cahill) and Manus Finnerty.

Martin’s Grandson Kevin O’Neil in Corrandulla Cemetery, January 2002, in about the same location as Martin.
