Beyblades have 5 basic parts:

1) Bey-Bit
2) Attack Ring
3) Weight Disc
4) Blade Base
5) Spin Gear

You might also run into beyblades that have other parts like a defence ring but the ones listed above are the basic 5 and are really the only ones you need to know about.

The Bey-Bit is the part of the beyblade that contains a bit-beast... if you have one that is.

The Attack Ring is the part that hits the other beyblade the most... (yes, the most, not all the time as you will read in a bit). It is the part that is built for head-on battles with other beyblades

The Weight disc is (as you might have guessed) the part that makes sure they beyblade has enough weight to keep spinning. Having a heavy weight disc can be a real advantage in battle.

The Blade Base is (yup!) the base of the beyblade! ^_^ It also has a big part to play in what kind of beyblade you have. The 4 main types are "Attack" with a flat spinning tip, "defence" with a rounded spinning tip, "endurance" with a pointed spinning tip, and "combination" which can have a variety of tips depending on the beyblade. Also, if the other beyblade is spinning a certain way, a sharp hit from your beyblade's base can send the opponent flying.

The spin-gear determines which was your beyblade spins and what kind of launcher you can use. The two types are Right-Spin and Left-Spin. Most beyblades are right-spin and use right-spin launchers. The left-spin beyblades (like Dragoon Storm) use left-spin launchers. The only way you can use a beyblade with a launcher from the opposite spin direction is to put the rip-cord in backwards but when you do that you can lose spin-speed... so just stick with a launcher that matches the spin direction on your beyblade.

This picture shows the 4 parts of the beyblade that can be clearly seen when it's assembled. The picture on the right shows all the parts of the beyblade when it's unassembled. (The spin gear is in the middle of the beyblade and you can't really see much of it from the outside)
