Comments:
The basis of this chart is pretty simple.  Just take all the points an artist has gained for each song and add them all together.  Ties are broken by number of charted singles, then by the artist who had the highest ranking song of the year (in the case of the top 25, this was the only tiebreaker we had).  Overall there were 191 artists that charted songs this year.  I only decided to present the top 25.  One thing of note, I do not count guest appearances on other people's songs into an artist's total.  It would just be too confusing and take too long to calculate!

This year there were a few surprises.  What was no surprise, however, was that 2003 was definitely the year for Erasure on my charts.  They managed to chart nine songs, and pretty much SMOKE the competition.  They earned over 3,000 points this year!!  This is probably going to be a record for years to come (or at least until Erasure release another album!).

Coming in second place is Madonna.  I was actually a little surprised to see how well she did this year.  Her performance really did sneak up on me.  I guess I was so focused on Erasure and Coldplay (who come in at number 3) to even remember that she was having a good year.  Someone else who was having a good year was Shania Twain.  Her "Up!" album produced 7 chart appearances and shot her from number 23 last year to number four this year.  Rounding out the top 5 was Becky Baeling, who managed to have a great year thanks to her two hit singles, "Getaway" and "If You Love Me."

Looking elsewhere on the charts, two of last year's top 25 make repeat performance outside the top 10.  Cher managed to come in at number 16 this year thanks to her double A-Side single "When The Money's Gone/"Love One Another."  Daniel Beddingfield also barely manages to come in at number 25 after being number nine last year.

As you can see, there is a lot of variety in my music, from Pop (Erasure, Madonna, Shania, PSB, Beyoncé, etc.) to Dance (Becky Baeling, Jamie Winchester & Hrutka Róbert, Scooter, Divine Inspiration, etc.) to Rock (Coldplay) to Rap (Fabulous).  Hopefully 2004 will have as much variety!

Comments:
This chart is meant to show which artists consistently were putting out hits this year.  Only artists who charted 2 or more songs are eligible.  The total points an artist earns are then divided by number of songs charted.  The tie break in this chart was broken the same way as the last chart (by the artist who had the highest charting single of the year.)

I was not surprised at all to see Coldplay atop this list for the year.  Though he had only one real hit of the year, it was such a hit that it made up for his other two lesser chart performances.  Averaging these chart performances out would have been like giving Coldplay the number 25th, 24th, and 23rd ranked songs of the year.  The key on this chart is to only have a few songs or no songs that are duds.

Becky Baeling would have easily held the number one spot if it were not for "Heaven Is A Place On Earth."  The song only earned 34 points and brought down her average a lot.  Erasure makes a very impressive number 3 for charting 9 songs this year.  A few artists from last year also make this list.  Cher practically makes a repeat performance from last year, only falling back from number eight to number twelve.  Dirty Vegas and Daniel Beddingfield also make it on again this year, rounding out the chart.

There are quite a few artists who missed the top 25 list for the year, but made it onto the Chart Performance's list.  Jessica Simpson, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Richard X, and Mark Owen may not have accumulated enough points to be one of the 25 best artists of the year, but they did have good chart performances to place here for the year.

Comments:
This chart is just what it says.  Ties were broken by total points earn for the year.  This year, there were less artitsts that charted three or more songs.  Last year there were 13 acts, this year there are only 8.  However, while last year the most songs charted by an artist was five, this year Erasure charted nine songs, and Shania, who last year charted four songs this year charted seven.  Of course three of these songs that make up the 7 were also charting last year as well.  The rest are artists that charted three songs each.

Comments:
Out of the 52 weeks this year, Coldplay had a song on the chart 47 of those weeks!  Erasure and Shania were right behind him with 44 and 42 weeks respectively.  The only artist from last year who could replicate this success was Daniel Beddingfield.  To break ties, it first went by songs charted, then total points.  The key to success on this chart is to have songs that don't overlap.  This chart is pretty self-explanitory, so let's move on to what is probably my favorite chart of the year.

Comments:
My top 10 albums of the year are based on Oz Top 40 chart experience.  If it were based on personal preference, I honestly don't know what my favorite album of the year would be.  The easy choice would be to say "Other People's Songs," but I spent a lot more time this year listening to mp3s than albums.  Some favorites though would be Dido's "Life For Rent," and Becky Baeling's "Becstacy."

This year, I actually own six of the ten albums that made this list.  Last year, I only owned five.  There was one dilema I was having.  Some of the songs that I charted were remixes of songs from albums.  Therefore, I decided that if a remixed song was on a seperate album, it would chart on that album ("Here" is a track from PSB's "Release" album, but I was charting the version on "Disco 3"), but if it wasn't released on any other album, I would chart it on the album it originally appeared on ("It's Your Life").

Anyway, these are the Artists Chart Award Charts for 2003.  Hope you enjoyed them!
