Comments:
Before this year, the longest song ever to chart on my charts was an amazing 30 weeks by Faith Hill back in 1998.  Incredibly, that was all in the top 20.  This year, however, that streak was broken.  Coldplay spend an amazing 32 weeks on my charts (one week in 2002, 31 in 2003).  Though not all of it's weeks were in the top 20, it certainly gave a better chart performance than "This Kiss."

Though artists this year didn't quite fare as good as in 2002, songs charted MUCH better.  Last year's number one on this chart would have only been at number 14 in 2003.  This year, 22 seemed to be the magic number.  An incredible six songs spent 22 weeks on the charts this year, including one by Erasure, who put two songs in the top 10 of this list.  Madonna also manages to put two songs in the top 20 as well.  Ties were broken by total points for the year.

Comments:
This chart is meant to show which songs averaged the best points per week this year.  To be eligible, a song had to have at least 10 weeks charted.  This is simply to keep songs that might not have charted long, but accumulated a lot of points right away.  An example would be Gary Jules' "Mad World."  The song has only been on the charts for 8 weeks (is still charting), but has averaged 38.88 points per week.

Anyway, now that the chart has been established, let's look at it.  "It's Your Life" was an easy winner in this chart.  The song spend more than half it's chart life at number one and when not at number one has spent most of the remainding weeks in the top 5.  It's average of 38.77 means that the song could have approximately spent it's entire 18 weeks at number two and achieved the same success.  Erasure have also spent a great deal of time in the top 5 and are still charting there now.  Paul Van Dyk just barely makes it onto the chart, having only charted for 10 weeks.  No big surprises here this year.

Comments:
This chart is pretty self-explanitory.  Ties were broken first by consecutive over non-consecutive weeks charted, then on total points.  "Clocks" still manages to stay on top here, as 23 of its 31 weeks were in the top 20.  "It's Your Life" has spent its entire chartrun in the top 20 so far.  Unlike last year, the entire top 5 is the top 5 songs of the year.  In fact, except for the switch at 6 and 7 and number 10 the entire top 10 songs of the year are in order here.  Let's move on now to the big boys, the songs that spent the most weeks in the top 10.

Comments:
This chart is also pretty self-explanitory.  Ties were again broken first by consecutive over non-consecutive weeks charted, then on total points.  "Clocks" again manages to stay on top here, as 21 of its 23 weeks in the top 20 were in the top 10.  This time though, the top 5 is a little different.  Erasure fall back from number 2 to 4, while "It's Your Life" moves up to number 2 and Sean Paul moves up to number 3, pushing the Pet Shop Boys back to number 5.  Some songs, like "It's My Life" by No Doubt, made this chart, but weren't in the top 20 list.  In No Doubt's case, this is because the song is still charting and hasn't had time to spend dropping into the 10's.  Let's move on to even the bigger dogs, the songs with the most weeks in the top 5.

Comments:
Last year, when I chose six weeks as the cut off, only 8 songs made the list.  This year, there are 16!  Only goes to show that I am keeping songs on my chart for a LOT longer.  No real surprises here, the entire top 5 is exactly as it was in the last chart.  The big mover on this chart was "If You Love Me," which spent 8 of it's 9 weeks in the top 10 in the top 5.  One thing I think is funny to realize is that Coldplay spent 18 weeks in the top 5, last year this was the longest chart run of the year!  Interesting, no?

Unlike last year, I was actually able to list all of my number ones.  Last year, there were 17 songs that spent a week at number one.  This year there were only five.  Coldplay did spend 5 weeks at number one, but one of them was in 2002.  "It's Your Life" now holds the record for most weeks at number one with 10.  Let's see if 2004 can't bring the breaking of that record!

Comments:
I added this chart this year to show you which songs took this award for the most weeks.  As you can see Coldplay dominated the chart.  Surprising, only three of these songs hit number one this year, and two hit number one last year.  It seemed that there was a pattern to the award: a song would hold it for many weeks, then there would be a period when a few songs would hold it for a week or two, then another long running song would take over.  There were three weeks when 2 songs both held the title in November.

Well those are the Song Award Charts of 2003.  Hope to see you back here in 2004!
