Comments: The basis of this chart is pretty simple. Just take all the points an artist has gained for each song and add them all together. Ties are broken by number of charted singles (in the case of the top 25, this was the only tiebreaker we had). Overall there were 209 artists that charted songs this year. I only decided to present the top 25. Well, no real surprises here. 2002 was definitely the year for Kylie Minogue on my charts. She managed to chart 5 songs, 4 of which went to the top 10. She also had two huge number one hits during the year. Needless to say that while she may have not been my personal favorite artist this year (that distinction goes to Darren Hayes), she blew everyone else out of the compeititon. Cher also had a very good year on my charts. She had three top 10 hits, one of which went to number one. Unfortunately, "Living Proof" album didn't fair so well in the states or anywhere else. Her "farewell" tour however, with Cyndi Lauper, was spectacular. It was the only concert I saw this year and was definitely worth the money I forked out for it. The same story can almost be said for Darren Hayes. His 2002 album, "Spin," was a commercial flop in the States, but proved to be successful elsewhere. The album produced 4 hits and a B-Side hit as well, 3 of these five songs going top 10. Hopefully Darren will be able to find success in the coming years. Dirty Vegas and Jennifer Lopez round out the top 5. I was actually kind of surprised to see Jennifer Lopez do so well. Her success this year came from a remix of "Walking On Sunshine." Personally, I am not too happy with the musical direction she has taken in 2002, and won't expect to see her charting from now on. The top 10 is rounded off by the highest ranking artist to only chart one song for the year. Of course that is X-Press 2 feat. David Byrne, who had the number one song of the year. I kept David's name one because techincally featured artists do recieve points for songs they are featured on. In this case, it would have meant a dead tie since X-Press 2 never charted another song. So I just left them as a pair. Artists such as Ashanti, Missy Elliot, and the numerous dance names (Carissma, Engelina, Do) all earn their own points for being featured on other people's songs. Ok, enough of that boring explaination. The rest of the top 25 features pretty much pop acts with a few exceptions. Rock band The Doves came in at number 11 on the strength of their two top 3 hits, "Pounding" and "Caught By The River." Only one boy band made the top 25. The boy band being LMNT. Shania Twain also adds a bit of country in at number 23. All in all 2002 was definitely a year of diversity among the top artists: from dance to country to pop to rock. |

Comments: This chart is meant to show which artists consistently were putting out hits this year. Only artists who charted 2 or more songs are eligible. The total points an artist earns are then divided by number of songs charted. I was very surprised to see Marc Anthony atop this list for the year. But thinking about it, it really isn't such a surprise. He only charted two songs this year. "I've Got You" was number 7 for the year and "I Need You" was number 100. Averaging these chart performances out would have been like giving Marc the number 29 and 30 ranked songs of the year. The key was only having two songs. This helped out Iio as well. "Rapture" was a huge hit, but their second song is just taking off now, so didn't have that many points to accumulate. Dirty Vegas would have easily held the number one spot if it were not for "Days Go By." The song only earned 4 points and brought down Dirty Vegas's average a lot. Kylie makes a very impressive number 4 for charting 5 songs this year. Darren Hayes is way down on this list because a lot of his songs didn't do well. As far as the rest of the top 10 are concerned, the only real surprise is Ian Van Dahl. "Reason" and "Will I?" were both very sizeable hits, helping them to land at number 5. There are quite a few artists who missed the top 25 list for the year, but made it onto the Chart Performance's list. Toya, 4 Strings, Aurora, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, and Brandy may not have accumulated enough points to be one of the 25 best artists of the year, but they did have good chart performances. I will be interested in seeing how this chart looks next year now that I have finally started settling into my charts. |

Comments: This chart is just what it says. Ties were broken by total points earn for the year. As I have said before, Kylie and Darren both charted 5 songs each. Cher and Shania Twain each charted 4 songs, as did Atomic Kitten. While the Kittens did chart 4 songs this year only one of them was a top 10 hit. After this there are a lot of acts who charted three songs, you can read it! LOL |

Comments: This year there were 55 chart weeks. 38 out of those 55 weeks included a Kylie Minogue song. That is very impressive as well as Cher's performance of 32 out of 55 weeks. The key to doing well here is to not have songs overlapping when charting. Ian Van Dahl's songs did not overlap at all, giving them 23 weeks on the charts this year. While Anastacia had the lowest amount of total points of any of the artists in the top 20, her songs didn't over lap, landing her at number 12. Overlapping of songs hurt many artists on this chart. Kylie had a lot of overlapping in her songs. This also hurt Darren Hayes and to a lesser extent Dirty Vegas. X-Press 2 feat. David Byrne manages to make the top 20 with only one song. |

Comments: My top 10 albums of the year are based on Oz Top 40 chart experience. If it was based on personal preference, my favorite album of the year was "Spin" by Darren Hayes. But seeing as Kylie had 5 songs from her album (the Austrailian version included "Tightrope" as an album track) charted on my charts, "Fever" easily was the number one album of the year. I do own this album, but don't own all of the albums that made my top 10. I only have a downloaded copy of Cher's and Marc Anthony's albums, though I still love Cher's album so much and had the pleasure of seeing her on tour. I keep meaning to buy Dirty Vegas's album, but haven't gotten around to buying it yet. The same is true for Daniel Beddingfield. I will be buying that album in the new year. One suprise for me was the album at number 10. Liberty X had a very successful year in 2002 and their album "Thinking It Over" proved that. A few artists that did well but didn't make this countdown would be Jennifer Lopez. "Ain't It Funny" (original version not the crap remix) and "I'm Gonna Be Alright" are both on "J-Lo" and the remix of "Walking on Sunshine" is on her remix album. Therefore all of her points are spread out. Iio doesn't have an album out, so they didn't have an album to chart. Anyway, these are the Artists Chart Award Charts
for 2002. Hope you enjoyed them!
