RandomnityNow, before I can do any more random things on Doughnutopia, I feel I need to define what randomnity is.
Now, by nature randomnity is totally and utterly random, and as such can be defined as having a constantly changing definition. At the same time, it has the constant definition of being something that happens spontaneously, on-the-spot, and without any prior warning. Depending on the witnesses, this can be over differing periods of time, whether the random idea is concieved over mere seconds after a burst of inspiration, or whether planned previously but yet acted on at a random moment in time. Now, a good example of this happened to me today (Sunday 6th April, 2003). Myself and two others, one of whom is well-known for being totally and utterly random at times, were walking alond Union Street, and there was this big street-market thing out selling potted plants, fish etc. I made a passing comment about randomly buying a plate of mussels, and walking down Union Street with them. Then, we decided to take it farther, resulting in a full-blown conversation involving spontaneously assembling crustaceans and other things along those lines. Then, the subject said he liked scallops more than mussels, which really is such a typical thing for this particular person to say. I figured he was joking, until we subsequently stopped at several fish stalls, as he asked for scallops. Eventually, we found a stall that had scallops, and so he bought some fresh scallops, and kept them in a bag with some ice for a couple of hours, and ate them at home. This was random, as it was not part of a pre-concieved plan, as well as having no particular purpose other than slightly amusing us and serving as a meal later on. Now, getting back to the point, randomnity relies on timing. If something pops into your head, and you immediately act on it, it is indeed random. A good example of this is the ever-common random text message. If, while taking something 'just a thread too far' (which happens a lot, especially when no-one is there who knows just how far 'too far' actually is), I suddenly decide to warp it into a text message, and send it to somebody from my phone book who appreciates randomnity, then that can be classed as being random. I was once actually planning to archive a good few random texts and put them on here Example: 'And behold, as the Chinese lobster approaches, large numbers of schitsophrenic shampoo bottles gather on the sand' Now, by definition, the word random is not random, because it is pre-determined and is always the same, despite various interpretations (Jenny - randomer, Jez - randomninity, Steve - randomnity). But yet, without having a fixed word, randomnity could never be truly identified as a subject, making it an enigma. And yet, as an enigma, it would still have a fixed word, removing from the randomnity, making it unidentifiable. And yet (you must have seen this coming), as being unidentifiable it would in fact have been identified, making it identifiable and by that it would be identified as being unidentifiable. Now, because of this we can determine that randomnity can in fact be defined as constantly shifting between identifiable (pre-concieved ranodmnity) and unidentifiable (sheer, on-the-spot randomnity).
