Welcome: you are visitor

This page is a summary of some of the other families named on the Index page, until I can prepare full pages for them. Most of the connections are by marriage, and links are provided where appropriate.
ANDERSON/ANDREWS of Flamstead, HRT: I am trying
to find the marriage, maiden name and roots of Eleanor SNELLING (c1773-1871):
she showed her birthplace in Census as Great Gaddesden or Flamstead, and
there is a possible marriage at St. Marylebone in London in 1789 between
Richard SNELLING
and Eleanor ANDREWS. If you have a connection with either family,
please E-mail me.
A recent possible lead has turned up: Eleanor ANDERSON was baptised
at Flamstead in 1773 (exactly the right year), daughter of Thomas and Sarah:
this couple make no other appearance in the Register, but a Thomas and
Sarah ANDREW had a daughter baptised in 1778: in following years,
a John and Sarah ANDREW appear. Is Eleanor ANDERSON the elusive
lady ? Did a curate or vicar confuse the names ANDERSON and ANDREWS
at Flamstead, or Marylebone?
Richard and Eleanor SNELLING had only one son, but four daughters:
the third daughter was Sarah - significant or a coincidence ?
Since writing the above, I have heard from several researchers, suggesting
that the names Andrews and Anderson were often interchanged: one
clergyman even noted in the Register against an ANDREWS entry "Anderson
by the vulgar !"
If you want more detail, or can add anything, please Email
me.
BALL of Harwarden FLN WLS and Stoke-on-Trent STS: Emma married William RICHARDSON (see below) in 1865: these are my wife's ancestors, and are interesting not only in their own right, but also because they shuttled between the two areas, apparently in connection with the coal mining industry. Several other researchers on the Clwyd FHS and Rootsweb Mailing list are also interested in this movement. If you have an interest in the name or industry E-mail me.
COCK of Kintbury, BRK: Martha married Jonathan TUBB . There is a possible line in IGI back to Joseph who married Mary GARLICKE at Wickham BRK in 1733.
FENSOM(E) of Berkhamstead HRT: Susannah married Thomas WATERTON in 1771. She was baptised in 1747, daughter of Thomas and Mary.
FINCH of Wheathampstead HRT: Sarah married John NORRIS in 1763: she was the daughter of James and Mary nee LEPER, and in IGI there are Finches in Wheathampstead going back to 1623. Also mentioned in Militia lists.
FOWLER of Berkhamsted, Lt Gaddesden HRT and Edlesborough BKM: Hannah married Thomas WATERTON in 1843: she was baptised in 1822, daughter of Jesse and Catherine nee KINGHAM. Jesse was bapt at Edlesborough in 1798, son of Daniel and Elizabeth nee CHESSEY or CHESHIRE.
GOLDING of Kintbury BRK: another link with the TUBB family: Mary married John TUBB at Kintbury in 1796, but the only GOLDING family I have traced so far is in Steventon. If you know anything, please E-mail me.
GOODWIN in Much Hadham HRT: Elizabeth married John ROWLEY in 1769: she was baptised in 1750 at Much Hadham, and was the daughter of Thomas and Jane nee UFFORD.
LAWRENCE of East Woodhay BRK: Susana married George TUBB at Enborne BRK in 1724: she was baptised in 1701 at East Woodhay, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth. My information at present comes from Valerie Bushell, who from New Zealand has discovered far more than I have from only 120 miles away from the area.
RHODES of Sherburn in Elmet, Leeds and Harrogate WRY: a TASKER connection, see below.
RICHARDSON of Audley, Peover and Ollerton CHS: Edna married Henry TASKER (see below) in 1897, and I have a well documented line in Cheshire going back to 1700.
SOLES of St. Albans, Herts: Mary married George Kingham (see above) at St. Albans, St. Peters, in 1777.
TASKER of Navenby & Wood Enderby LIN, Knutsford CHS, Harrogate WRY: my wife's maiden name: her brother Mike Tasker has more detail back to c1600, but not on the Web: E-mail me for more info.
TURNEY of Berkhamsted HRT: Ann married Thomas WATERTON in 1805: she was the daughter of Daniel and Ann nee CATLING.
WOOD of Vernham Dean or Andover HAM: a TUBB connection. Ann married John TUBB at Lambourn BRK in 1861, and showed her father as John, Labourer on her marriage certificate, and her birthplace as these Hampshire places in later Censuses: so far, I have found no trace of her birth/baptism, nor of a possible family she could have come from. Please E-mail me if you know anything.
