Gillie's Basic Diet
Ingredients:
10 Lbs. Chicken Leg Quarters
1 Lb. split Peas (or 1/2 Lb. Peas and 1/2 cup cream of wheat...added after peas done)
1/2 Lb. Chicken Livers
35g  Egg Shell Powder (aprox 7 large egg shells)

1 cup Blackstrap Molasses
1 390g Box Potato Flakes
4-5 lbs.  lean ground beef
1  8oz. Box Minute Tapioca
2  5.5oz. cans  V8 Juice (low sodium)
Plus approx 30-40% more chicken bones (saved in freezer by family members)
1/2 Cup Cider Vinegar
1 small can Pumpkin
1 8oz. can Oysters (drained)
Step 1. Roast 10 lbs chicken leg quarters in large covered roaster for 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. Until you are sure all chicken is cooked through to the bone.
2. Allow chicken to cool and remove all bones (be sure to remove small rib pieces hidden in meat). Place bones in slow cooker or crock pot.
3. Put deboned chicken in a plastic container, cover and put in refridgerator.
4. From the extra chicken bones that you, friends and family save in the freezer, Add 40% more bone to what you already have in the pot. Add 1/2 cup cider vinegar and cover bones with water plus 2 inches or so (for evaporation). Bring water to a boil...then reduce heat to medium high and allow to simmer for 12 hours. Add 1/2 lb. chicken livers and simmer for another 2-3 hours. Bones should be soft and break apart easily with a fork when done.
6. Allow smashed bones and liquid to cool. Then put smashed bones and liquid into blender and puree.
5. After bones are cooked and soft...use a potato masher to break up chicken bones. If some bones are still to tough to break up...cook for a couple hours longer.
Add oysters and puree with other ingredients
8. Put other half of the bone puree onto pot or slow cooker, add 2 cans V8, canned pumpkin and 35g eggshell powder. Bring to boil. Add  Tapioca cook 1 min. and add to mix tub.
7. Return 1/2 of liquid & bone puree to the slow cooker and add 1 lb. Peas . Cook for several hours until peas "turn to mush". Put contents into the mixing tub for later.
9. The mixing tub is where it all comes together. To the ingredients that are already in the tub...add the box of potato flakes and the cup of molasses. Mix all ingredients well (the potato masher works best or use your hands..it's sort of like mixing a meat loaf).
Then grind-up the cooked chicken in the food processor. Cook the 2 lbs. ground beef and grind-up in the food processor, too.
Add both meats to the mixing tub and mix well with other ingredients.
The finished product!
Just cover and freeze until ready to use. Food will keep in fridge for up to two weeks...but I freeze it in gallon ice cream buckets, in one week portions.
Update! Mom has changed my basic diet recipe.
She now adds a 8oz can of Oysters... pureed with the other ingredients. The oysters boost the zinc content.
She also adds a small can of pumpkin which improves the texture after freezing.
Note: Gillie also takes a good vitamin/mineral supplement daily...in addition to vegitables and fish oil.
Yummy! Thanks Mom.
