Thole's parents were born in Germany and he immigrated to the US in 1880 and settled in Butler County, Iowa.
Thole was naturalized a US citizen June 19, 1888 in Butler County, Iowa.
In 1895, Thole Cramer's farm was 100 acres in the center of the north half of Section 14 of Monroe Township of Butler County. It was surrounded on three sides by land owned by his father-in-law, Balthazar Nicklaus. Since Thole's name is in the plat book for 1895, I would think he owned the land, but his 1900 census entry says he is renting his farm.
Later, Thole and Sophie moved into town and lived on the corner just to the West of the Congregational Church in Parkersburg (the house is no longer there). Thole Cramer was co-owner of the pool hall in Parkersburg with his wife's cousin % George Nicklaus % for a while. Thole later had a clothing store in downtown Parkersburg, two doors down from the pool hall.
Thole is given a middle initial of G. in his son Thole G's marriage license.
Thole was survived by a brother Ben of Shell Rock, Iowa.
