Andrew was a merchant and owned several general clothing stores in California. He and Ida were married in Seattle and they lived in Auburn, Washington. They moved to California in 1927 because of Andrew's health. The cold weather in Washington made the rheumatism he suffered worse. During the depression years, Ida, Genevieve and Pauline assisted at the stores. Pauline said she never remembered him speaking of his youth. She remembers him as a very kind and gentle man and a wonderful father. They had a happy family and Pauline never heard her parents argue, and if there was disagreement it was never heard or seen by the daughters. Andrew was a good provider who took pride in his family. Pauline said she felt lucky to have such a happy family and good parents.
