What is DNA fingerprints? DNA fingerprints are the chemical sequences in an individual's DNA. Based on the sequences in the DNA fingerprints, the relations between humans is defined to see if they are related or not. DNA fingerprints could be used to determine any organism, not just humans, but animals as well.

When and where was deoxynbonucleic acid (DNA) fingerprinting discovered? In England, in the year of 1985, Alec Jeffreys first discovered DNA in white blood cells from the skin. He also found DNA in blood, saliva, hair follicle (hair root), and semen. Years later in 1992, the court approved of DNA fingerprinting as reliable evidence for the criminal justice system.

Why is fingerprinting so important? Fingerprinting plays a huge part in the criminal justice system. If it wasn't for DNA fingerprinting, we wouldn't be able to catch as many criminals as we have now. Murderers would get away with crimes much easier. Criminals should be punished of what the have done, and that is why we have DNA fiingerprints. With just a tiny sample from a suspect's blood, it can show the background of the person and the record of what the person did when you take it to the lab.

Major Challenges? Depending on the method of how the DNA fingerprint is captured, different methods would be used to determine the identity of the person. Investigators has to match DNA strands that there are to determine if it's a match. This is very difficult because sometimes the investigators can mistake the wrong person for the actual criminal if they are not accurate. This can cause the mistaken person to take the responsibilities of someone else's actions, for example, serving jail time, paying fines, or even getting the death penalty.
