This page is under CONSTRUCTION. Please Come Back Soon.
Here is my first project. Actually this would be the second version of such a project with a few differences. On this page I will post pics and try to explain the steps involved in building a PC in a car - in this case a RC Car. I have been building PCs in my cars for a few years now when I came across the Mini-itx motherboards. While doing research I found Mini-Itx.com. They have a wealth of info as well as projects built my individuals who have a lot of imagination. That set me thinking and I decided to build one using an Xbox case for my Car PC. In the middle of the project someone beat me to it and finished theirs before. However he scrapped the DVD drive because he did not have enough space. I managed to keep the drive in mine but It was no longer a driving force as someone had done it before me. Last christmas I came across these 1/6 scale RC Cars from New Bright Toys as I was doing my christmas shopping and the idea hit me. This would make the perfect case for a PC. Enough background info - now to the details of this project.

My only requirement for this project is a working PC as well as a working RC Car when I decide to relieve stress a little. SPECS: Motherboard: VIA Epia M10000 mini-itx motherboard Cooling: Custom made water cooling system - The mainboard doesn't really need it but the cool factor of a radiator, much less one that works could not be beat. EDIT - unfortunately I cannot find a radiator small enough RAM: 512mb DDR Ram fron Kensington Storage: 80gb Western Digital Hard Drive EDIT - 160 gb Seagate baracuda hard drive Mods: Extra LCD Lights in the bumpers LED lights for underbody lighting effects - More as I can think of them Added on May 10 2005 USB hub in front bumper Wi-fi card - Linksys WRT54G 802.11g card

Please post your comments in my guestbook. I appreciate all critism
I am still waiting for my radiator to arrive . In the mean time I felt I had to do something so I went to my favorite auto store and got me some LED lights that I planned to use as underbody lights. I had originally planned to go with neons but ran into a snag . First I could not find the color I wanted at the store. Secondly the neon tubes they had were huge - About 2 inches in diameter. I must say I do like the outcome although I still think neons would be better. I have to try thim to find out though.
This is the install under the car.
Some Eye Candy
LEDs have 2 modes - scrolling and steady
Here I Testfit the motherboard. Notice I did a bit of cutting into the car to get the motherboard to fit
Here again I made some changes. I decided to stick to a color theme so out goes the red LED underbody lights to be replaced with blue LEDs

USB hub setup
Here I installed a cooling fan under the hood. It is to be part of the cooling system which is coming along really slowly as I cannot find a radiator just the right size for my application.
This is what is left of my linksys wi-fi card. If you are not comfortable voiding your warranty - avoid this
So far this project is coming along with a few minor setbacks. For one thing I just bought two wi-fi booster antennas for me to use for wi-fi and for the car's remote antenna but it seems they have grown feet and walked away. I am 100% certain I left them on my pool table when I was going out but I can not seem to find them. I've been looking for two srtraight days but to no avail. I have just resigned to go to the store and get another pair tommorrow. I really had my mind set on finishing the wi-fi setup today but I guess that will not happen. Another issue is the radiator for the liquid cooling system I had planned. It seems I cannot find a rad just the right size for what I want so I have a fan that is blowing air but not functional as the air never gets to the motherboard. Hopefully before this project is completed I'll find one. - May 7 2005
