Quality time with DISCOVER VIRGINIA is spent in our local BEAUTIFUL STATE
& NATIONAL PARKS/REFUGES catching glimpses of WILDLIFE. Pictured
here are views from a few of our many outings! Some of these spots are TOP SECRET! LOTUS BLOSSOMS - Yes, that's the REAL THING and sadly, these beautiful blossoms are becoming more and more rare as we speak. We spotted a fantastic little wetland area just full of lotus blossoms and for a couple of weeks last year we were able get some great "UP CLOSE" views and PICTURES! Needles to say, the kids had never seen such a WILDFLOWER. Many of them thought such flowers were only in pictures or florist shops, certainly not found IN THE WILD...LOCALLY! BALD EAGLE - Another REALITY, and it is LOCAL. NATURAL DUNE LINES - If examined closely, it is obvious that to take the above "Dune" picture, we either had to be in the air or on at least the THIRD DUNE LINE from the ocean! Well, our feet were firmly IN THE SAND! You can barely make out one of our party "down in the valley" between the dunes, carrying our seine net. When the kids experienced these natural dunes they thought they were fake, or mountains! They had no idea THE BEACH IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE THIS! THE EASTERN SHORE - BARRIER ISLANDS mean the Outer Banks of North Carolina to most folks around here. That is, until you've seen THE EASTERN SHORE OF VIRGINIA! Each and every week, DISCOVER VIRGINIA tries to visit the Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge and Kiptopeake State Park. It's always a great LEARNING EXPERIENCE, FUN and great FISHING & CRABBING! On most visits we are among only a handful of visitors. |
