In spite of all the traveling we've done with DISCOVER VIRGINIA, we are not
yet able to TRAVEL IN TIME. The kids you see above have not gone back to the MESOZOIC
ERA, but they are within the grasp of a life size T. REX! These kids are visiting
THE LIVING MUSEUM in HAMPTON and enjoying the museum's "Dinosaur Exhibit". RAINY DAYS - Museum visits are usually reserved for inclement weather, at least the INDOOR EXHIBITS. There are wonderful museums in the area and all are worthy of our time, but in the SUMMER, after 180 days of school, OUTDOORS IS OUR NICHE! LEARNING - particularly about NATURAL HISTORY is one of the major focal points of DISCOVER VIRGINIA and there are a lot of opportunities to learn in our local musuems. The photo above is a great example, but the entire LIVING MUSEUM is a great spot to learn about PLANTS & ANIMALS and all sorts of natural phenomena. WETLANDS - are another major area in which we concentrate and the VIRGINIA MARINE SCIENCE MUSEUM has some fantastic exhibits and opportunities to learn about wetlands and the MARINE ENVIRONMENT, in general. HISTORY - Since Tidewater is so absolutely rich in history, we frequently take the opportunity to visit museums sites of interest as the bad weather hits us. We have visited the CASEMENT MUSEUM inside FORT MONROE and learned about the geology, hydrology, and Anasassi Indians of the GRAND CANYON, at the IMAX in THE AIR & SPACE MUSEUM in HAMPTON. While visiting GLOUSTER POINT, home of THE VIRGINIA INSTITUTE OF MARINE SCIENCE, it is difficult not to at least stop by the YORKTOWN BATTLEFIELD AREA. |
