Pictured here are a few of the many activities
we explore during a typical week at DISCOVER VIRGINIA. Each week offers
different "Adventures", but every week focuses on FUN & LEARNING!
CANOEING - On the top left you see us canoeing in beautiful, remote and wild West Neck Creek. Each week we spend several hours exploring West Neck Creek, looking for snakes, turtles, osprey and all sorts of other wild creatures. At about the half-way point in our canoeing adventure we raft up (link all of our canoes together) and enjoy a great snack, right there on the water! PEACH "PICKI'N" - At least once or twice each week, during the "season", we take time to enjoy some of the delicious local fruits and vegetables available at various "you pick" farms. The kids always enjoy the "picki'n" almost as much as the actual BLACKBERRIES, BLUEBERRIES, APPLES or PEACHES. The picture above was taken at MARTIN'S FARM, on KNOTTS ISLAND. And yes, we always pick enough so there will be some for the folks at home. Now and them we even stop to make some HOMEMADE ICECREAM. AT THE BEACH! - You'll notice the deserted beach in the background of the beach picture above. And yes, that is a NATURAL SAND DUNE behind the kids. (For almost every kid in this setting, it is the first time they have experienced our local oceanfront WITHOUT HOARDS and with the BEAUTIFUL NATURAL DUNE LINES; THE WAY IT OUGHT TO BE!) This picture was taken on the beach at FALSE CAPE STATE PARK. DAILY PICNICS - True, every day IS a picnic with DISCOVER VIRGINIA. Here we are on the banks of the CURRITUCK SOUND, picnicing under a beautiful LIVE OAK or is that a LOBLOLLY PINE? In addition to lunch, we always stop once or twice each day for a SNACK of one variety or another, usually one we PICKED ourselves. By the end of the week the favorite beverage is COLD WATER and the favorite snack is FRESH FRUIT. |
