Diocese of Galveston - Houston

In the Diocese of Galveston - Houston, the Disciples of Hope serve as hospital chaplains. They are members of the Catholic Chaplains Corps of the diocese and work with other chaplains.

The Community House

Father Michael A. Barrosa, the house superior, serves as the chaplain of Southwest Memorial Hospital, while Fathers Paolo Agostino Evardoni and Rodolfo Cal-Ortiz serve in various hospitals of the Texas Medical Center. The three live together in their community house where a chapel of Sto.Niño is presently under construction. This chapel will be the venue of their activities connected with formation of lay volunteers who will minister to the sick in their homes by giving the so called "Patmos Retreat."

For the priests of the Disciples of Hope, chaplaincy service is not just sacramental ministry. They are trained to give pastoral counseling to the sick and their families. The entire hospital staff is also a recipient of their ministry.
