WHY A NEW RELIGIOUS FAMILY CALLED
“THE DISCIPLES OF HOPE”?
The world of the third millennium will see more
and more people at the edge of existence:
The youth pushed to the limit by drugs and illicit
sex; adults in the prime of life threatened by incurable illness;
the isolated elderly dying alone; the growing multitudes of all
ages driven by poverty to the brink of economic despair; members
of all generations flawed by seemingly inescapable afflictions,
whether purely mental, emotional, psychosomatic, or moral in character…
And nature itself being rapidly depleted to add
to the growing scenario of despair and culture of death…all
these are enough to make one feel at the end of one’s rope,
in a “no-exit” corner of a dead–end street.
When
these things happen, the Disciples of Hope will be there to try
to give meaning and hope to all without exception.
Picturesquely, the “Charism” of the
Disciples of Hope is to be watchmen strategically positioned to
assist all those at the edge of existence, threatened by terminal
illness, old age, or suicidal despair.
Their motto, following the style of the biblical
“Beloved Disciple” is “to love to the end,”
by standing beneath the Crucified Savior, whom they serve in the
desperately afflicted.
The Priests and Permanent Deacons of the Disciples
of Hope will bear witness to the dignity and value of human life
in every stage, by their preaching, or by their lives and service,
of the redemptive value of suffering in whatever form, accompanying
people especially in the final lap of their earthly journey, by
giving them hope in the greatest good of all -- Eternal Life with
God.
