Interview Protocol:
We interviewed three of our potential users and discussed with them in detail about their personal interest and about our product and the functionality that the product will provide. The steps of the conducted interview with the users are given below:
Introduction:
In first phase, we introduce ourselves and retrieve a general introduction of the users. We explained the purpose of the interview and explained about the general overview of our project. We informed the users that we would be planning a system that would assist the user, when he visits natural places like parks, mountains, forests and historical places. We asked users some personal questions like their age, hobbies their education and so on, taking care that only those questions were asked that were absolutely relevant to the overall system development and no questions were repeated.
Questions Answer Session:
In second phase, we asked users some general questions about their interests, and routine life, and we asked the questions that would benefit us in a systematic design and functionality of our product and how this utility would benefit the users. This was done telling the users step by step about our overall development, while being open to any plausible suggestions that were provided by them. The questions asked are given below:
o What are your daily routine tasks?
o How do you organize your routine activities?
o What else you would like to use that would assist you in scheduling the activities?
o What other sources do you use to get latest news other than newspaper?
o Do you have a smart phone?
o Do you have an internet facility and a camera in your smart phone?
o For what other purposes, do you use your smart phone?
o How do you come to know about the latest weather forecast?
o What other sources, do you use, to get the weather information?
o What are the shortcomings, if any, of any possible weather forecasting system that you use currently?
o For what purpose and how often, do you use your phone camera?
o Any other uses of your mobile camera that you can think of, or are currently using?
o How do you spend your holidays?
o What kind of places you like to visit?
o What means of transport do you use to travel?
o How do you come to know about the timings of pubic transport?
o Would you like to have any other method to know the timings?
o What kind of information do you like to get while visiting these places?
o What sources you use to get the information you want, and their shortcomings, if any?
o How often you do shopping when you visit these places?
o How do you get information about the products you want to purchase?
o How do you pay for the products you purchase?
o Would you like any other payment method?
o While you visit natural places, how do you get to know about the path to follow while visiting the place?
o Would you like any other method to know the path other than maps?
o While you visit these natural places, how do you get the information about the nature and its objects?
o How to you interact socially and what means you use for interaction?
o Would you prefer any other way to communicate with you family and friends?
These are the most important questions that we asked form the users and in next phase we presented the idea of our application in detail.
Discussion about the Functionality of Application:
In this phase, we have presented our ideas and storyboarding results (brainstorming) to the intended users and asked their opinion about the functionality of the application. We welcomed the ideas and suggestion of the users and asked about the improvements: adding or deleting the functionality. We took care to consider the users as potential developers, and hence gave full respect and attention to any ideas that they had floated. The questions we generally asked are listed below:
o What do you think about the ideas of our application?
o Was the application similar to something that you wanted, or thought would aid you in any aspect of your daily life?
o What extra functionality would you think is of benefit, and how would you want it to function?
o What are the changes that we can make to improve our application, so that it becomes relevant to you?
o What functionality you think is not good/unusable/non-additional add-on and should be removed?
o Which functionality did you like most?
o What functionality you are going to use and how often?
So after a long discussion with the intended users, we come with some new ideas and modifications in our initial brainstorming results. So we made modifications in the mind-map and functionalities and these modifications have been explicitly represented on the mind map (updated).
