Epcot was the second theme park to be built at Walt Disney World. Epcot was opened on October 1, 1982 and cost about one billion dollars. Walt Disney's original plans for EPCOT called for an "Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow," a planned community where residents could live, work, and play in an environment. The residents of EPCOT would be able to test out the latest technological advances vailable.
