| The Adoption - Step 2 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In Step 1, I made the decision. I think that's the most difficult so far. But what would I know? I'm only on Step TWO! I'm sure the more experienced adoptive parent is chuckling to themselves and saying, "Yeah, I remember that. It all looked so simple. Wait'll ... yada yada yada." So forgive me for being naive afterall I'm a newbee to this! I'm sure I'll catch up pretty quick and I'm sure I'll make it all the way through! My friends all think I'm insane or that this is some strange manifestation of a mid-life crisis! The simple truth is that a long, complicated series of events led me to this momentuous decision. All the way from my own childhood to my advanced adulthood. It all seems to have built to this moment. |

| So, Step 2 will be to fill out the INS I-600a form and send it along with $425 of my hard-earned money to begin this process. Then I've got to arrange for a Home Study to the tune of about $1200. By the end I'll be broke financially but I'll be a Dad with a son (and perhaps another son) and it'll be worth all the expense. I gotta ask though. It's my nature to be inquisitive. WHY does a Federal Agency NEED 400 plus dollars for me to submitt a form!? Are they BROKE? Are their salaries dependent on income from people wanting to adopt ? I know I'll NEVER get an answer but it'll always puzzle me! Next time I see Senator Barbara Mikulski (MD), I'll ask her! In the meantime, get out the checkbook! This is only the beginning! If bio kids were this much trouble and expense..., yada yada yada... |
