Ye Olde Soup Lake Part II
The perfect holiday! (and cheap too!) Ok so as I mentioned in part I I am now going to delve deep into the reaches of P&P2 locations - why? you may ask - well it's very simple. I (with the aid of someone else's research - ok ok I stole the idea and tweaked it a bit but god knows where it came from ok?!) have come up with the perfect holiday for any JA/P&P addict - a week long tour of P&P2 locations with a few added places of interest not strictly P&P related. I will be stayin in youth hostels on my tour (because I'm a poor student type) but I'm sure more perfectly amiable accommodation is available for those who don't have such worries!
MONDAY: Our tour begins in Bath (nearest youth hostel to Laycock &c.) where you can see the assembly rooms and take a stroll round the Royal Crescent and take a look at number 1 - a great museum just as it would've been in Regency times!!

TUESDAY: Now on to Laycock which served as Meryton where you can see the 'Assembly Rooms' (Red Lion pub) and where Lizzie, Kitty and Lydia met Wickham for the first time. To get there go W down the M4 to junction 17 and S for about 10 miles. After that a trip to see Longbourn or Luckington Court as it is really known. If you can manage to make Bath last two days (a very easy task) and arrive here on the wednesday you can have a look round the gardens and church as they are only open on weds afternoons! Just off the B4040, 3 miles N of the M4 equidistant from junctions 17&18.

WEDNESDAY: Following in the footsteps of Lizzie and the Gardiners next we head to Derbyshire where the first stop is Sudbury hall alternatively known as the interiors of Pemberley. Apparently some of the costumes from the film are on display but whether they are still there I don't know. The nearest youth hostel is Dimmingsdale and directions to Sudbury hall can be found on the National Trust website.
FRIDAY: Finally to another NT property: Belton House - also known as Rosings. Once again details on the NT website. The furniture in the rooms used as locations in P&P2 were actual items from the house so don't be fooled into thinking they are left over props! The curtains however were apparently left by the crew in the Blue room where Darcy writes his letter to Lizzie. And in the afternoon a small visit to Mr Collins' parsonage or Teigh - it is a private residence so only really worthwhile hunting for if you want to take photos! Teigh is 20 miles S of Belton House and the nearest youth hostel is Thurlby.
THURSDAY: Now for the location everybody wants to know - Where were the exterior Pemberley scenes shot? And the answer is Lyme Park. Once again it's a NT property so opening times and directions can be found on the website. In the afternoon it's on to Chatsworth details on the Chatsworth website. Nearest youth hostel is Bakewell (handy for cakes hmm?).
To visit Chawton (as I certainly wish to!) I'd advise going before Bath as it will then make a decent round trip (depending of course on where you live!). Good detailed instructions and a map can be found on the JA museum website.
