Karol Rea Mason lived in a small town in North Carolina with her father Frank and two older brothers Toby and Max. She started work right out of high school. She had to put some money aside because her father would take most of it to buy his alcohol. He was abusive to her vocally making her feel guilty, if she ever tried to leave.Toby and Max would be in and out of the house always taking trips they couldn't afford. After a few years she managed to get a few grants for college. While still working at night she went to school during the day to become a vet.

When she finally graduated at the top ten of her class, she set up a small practice in town. Her father still took her money to keep his supply of alcohol going. Her brothers would stay home a lot more and use her money as they wanted. Finally tired of having her money taken away, she packed up and left. Not real fond of flying, she drives as far as her old car would let her, hoping that it was far enough away from her family.
