Video Codec Mafia Gang

You must have quite often noticed some compressed movies or video files. Have you ever given a thought, what’s that all…. We always desire to have a number of movies & videos in our computer, but gosh space becomes a vault…  We want to play MP3s on our Mobile & PDAs but with two loaded, space gets full, & we are greeted with a msg to free some space…   Have you ever wished, if we could ever compress them to a limitless limit n convert a 3 CD movie into a single CD.? But for most, it becomes like Finding Neverland on earth.

Ok, Come with me, ill avail you to break this threshold with new tech of MPEG-4 or u’ll keep fighting in the rat race with ur PC.

 Egg From Space

The need to transfer digital data across a network brought about the need for codecs. Put simply, ‘codec’ stands for ‘Compression-Decompression’, or Coding-Decoding’. A video codec is a software module that enables the compression and decompression of digital video. As video technology progressed, storing and using video in digital format became feasible, and a variety of such technologies began to emerge. Video compression required customized compression techniques. Care had to be taken to ensure there was no loss of quality during compression. This led to the development of algorithms that compressed the software. Though different algorithms and methods have been devised to compress and decompress data, a few factors are considered cardinal rules. The compression algorithm should be robust enough to ensure minimal data loss and errors during compression. Ease of editing the file after compression and random access are a couple of other factors that need to be considered while designing a video codec.

In addition to codecs we also have something known as container formats. A container is a file format that can store various types of data in it. This data is compressed in a uniform manner using a standard codec. Advanced container formats can therefore support audio, video, subtitles, and meta-data. They are also capable of storing the synchronisation information needed to play back the various data streams together, as in a typical video playback. Thus one of the essential differences between a codec pack and a container is that the latter acts as an envelope for different media streams. A few of the better known Container formats are Apple’s QuickTime and Microsoft’s Advanced Streaming Format (ASF).

Toys For Boys:

My friends keep asking me, Abhijit, how can you compress all ur Songs, Video files, Movies of 3 Packed CDs in to a single CD?, How can U even manage to have 10 full movies in ur 20GB Hard Disk? How can u compress the video files of 50MB to 1.3MB, n MP3s to 500KB that to at a lossless quality.

So dear, the Answer is here….  The Word is CODEC. It’s a game with codecs with lots of Permutation n Combinations. Codecs are the one who can fulfill all ur wishes of having a number of Videos, Movies at a cost of ever less Disk Place. By using a proper combination of certain factors you can compress any media file upto the level u ever wished. Some of the main factors are :

Video: Proper Codec Choice (I’ve explained a list of codecs below)

Video Setting: Compressor, Frame Rate, Resolution, Target Bit Rate

Audio Setting: Compressor, Sample Rate, Channel, Bit Rate

Ok now ill tell u abt the Codecs to be preferred. U can even find the Installer codecs & Video Converts from my Site    www.destini.info

CODECs from  ‘Area 51’ :

1.      DivX:

DivX is a video compression format that is used to create and distribute multimedia content. Perhaps the most popular of video Codecs, DivX is used by hundreds of millions of users across the globe to either encode or decode compressed video.

The DivX bundle is available for free download, which includes a DivX movie player and the Codecs necessary to decode videos coded using the DivX algorithm

Extension :  *.divx, or *.avi

2.     XviD

Another popular video Codec today is the XviD Codec. This Codec, unlike DivX, is open source, and all developers are welcome to help with the project. A lot of movies and video clips available on the Internet are encoded using this Codec.

Currently, skilled video and software engineers from across the world are working on improving this Codec. You can download a Windows binary (installer) from my Site.

Extension :  *.xvid, or *.avi

3.     3ivX

This Codec is also popular online. Their 3ivX Filter suite let’s you create and play MPG4 files. The 3ivX Codecs are also used to encode MOV files, both for the MAC as well as Windows platforms.

Extension :  *.3ivx, or *.avi

4.     Avid

This is another popular Codec that is used quite widely for files available on the Internet. It is developed by Avid Technology,

Extension :  *.avid, or *.avi

5.     Windows Media Video 9 Series

Abbreviated as WMV9, this Codec now comes inbuilt with Windows Media Player, and gives you great quality encoding, though you will spend a

lot more time encoding a video in this format.

However, for making presentations where you need to capture your monitor screen as a video, this Codec is a great help.

Extension :  *.wmv

6.     QuickTime

Apple Computer, the maker of Macintosh computers, is well known for building computers and operating systems with loads of visual appeal. They also have one of the most popular video formats around, especially if it’s movie trailers you want to watch online or on the Chip/Digit magazine CDs.

Extension :  *.mov

Where To Find This Codecs:

With the number of codecs available growing every day, it has become necessary to bundle these into ‘packs’, or containers. Some few Codec Bundles are freely available on Net. They can be found in their respective Sites or u jus log-on to my site for directly downloading them. www.destini.info

·        KLite Codec Pack

This is a Codec that was popularized by users of KaZaA Lite, the popular peer-to-peer file sharing application. It contains a pretty impressive list of all available audio and video Codecs. It also includes codes for Real Media and QuickTime files.

·        Nimo Codec Pack

·        Matroska

Neology Tip

How to compress ur video files with a lossless Quality from 700MB to 100MB.

1.      Get the Codec Pack ie K-Lite Mega Pack and install it.

2.      Get the Video Converter, n install it. Eg-River Past Converter, AVOne Video Converter, etc

·        Audio Std: Take WMA V2 or MP3 Layer, & audio sample at a BitRate of 48Kbps

·        & Convert it.

So Now when-ever you find any video file with extension as *.avi, *.xvid, *.divx, *.wmv etc. then u know how to deal with them & even how to encode & decode them  to ur utility level.

Don’t work as softwares are, make them work as you ever wanted.

This article is dedicated to all my friends who always wanted to compress their movies & hence irritated me a lot. Hope Frnds u got it.
