| cross represents Oldenburg, the place of origin of the royal family. The red and gold colors are the colors of the royal family still used today. The upper left field and bottom right field, separated by the cross, show the National Coat of Arms. The two blue lions of the upper right field represent Schleswig (the southern part of the Jutland peninsula). The corner of the bottom left field represents the Union crowns of the Kalmar Union (1397-1523) when Denmark, Norway and Sweden were ruled by a Danish Monarch, and the silver ram and bear represent the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The main crest is supported by two aboriginals, and the chains of the Order of the Dannebrog and the Order of the Elephant hang in the background. A red pavilion, topped with the crown of the Monarch Christian V., supports the main crest, the aboriginals and the orders. | ||||||||||||||||||
