I haven't the slightest idea why, but Candace seems to have somewhat of a small fan following. I happen to find her very boring. In fact, I'm not entirely sure why Demmy likes her. Most likely it's because she's honest, kind, and let's face it--Demmy needs some grounding to reality. Which brings up another good point. Why does Candace like hanging out with Demmy? I suppose they both need what the other has to offer. Demmy could use some stability, and Candace likes a touch of adventure now and then. Candace was created in 1996 quite by accident. I had drawn a group picture of the students in Demmy's kindergarten class and Candace was just a perfectly ordinary child sitting on the far bottom right. Later I drew Demmy's sixth birhday party and again I added Candace as a friend from school just because she looked nice and generic. Before Candace, Collie (one of my best friends' characters' children) was Demmy's best friend. I'll point her out to you in the birthday pic. Candace, it turned out, had a personality that very nicely complemented Demmy's. She was shy and traditional while Demmy was. . . well, Demmy. The two worked nicely together as opposites and as best friends. And because she was so timid and straitlaced I found that she was a very fun to write contrast to Demmy with her flyaway imagination. |
