Candace
        1998-1999
As the bright, sunny, clear days of summer must always turn into the brisk, cool, turbulent days of autumn so too must the simple, innocent, sunny days of childhood turn into the emotional, turbulent, independent time of adolescence.  And just as the leaves in autumn go through a magnificent change from green to brilliant red and gold, in adolescence children begin a fabulous metamorphosis into young adults.
Sometime in 1998 Demmy grew from a child into a preteen.  She started wearing makeup and in clothes,  and she developed more grown up hobbies, but most telling of all was the look on her face, less innocent, less childlike.  In short, Demmy was growing up.  The very first leaves of fall were beginning to show streaks of amber and gold,  and Candace, always faithfully following in Demmys footsteps, had begun to grow with her.  Of course for the comic they were sent back to childhood to relive that time of magic and endless summer days of frolic and adventure, but as all children know in the bright and endless days of summer that autumn (and school) are just around the corner, so too must all little children eventually grow up.
I know this seems irrelevant but the most striking difference in Candace is that she stopped wearing those stupid blue overalls and let her hair down!  She also "let her hair down" in a more figerative sence.  She  became less shy and introverted and became more athletic and confidant.  It was also during these years that something else was noticed. . . Until adolescence Demmy always got center strange for her outgoing, adventurous, and playful nature, but now, although you most likely cant see it in the pictures, Candace was growing up to be a very pretty girl, prettier then Demmy even, and this did get her a bit of extra attention (she wasn't sure if she liked it). . .
Unfortunately I didnt get to go anywhere with this because right around now was the time when I stopped playing with Demmy and Candace, and when I pulled them back out of storage as it were Demmy became a mascot for my new web page and Candace was all but forgotten. . .  until someone suggested to me that Demmy should have her own comic strip. .
