| Candace's Beginnings 1996-1997 |
| Candace�s beginnings are as boring as she is. That was mean! I can�t believe how mean I am to my own characters! Okay, so how did Candace get to be a main character in �Demmy�s World�? Actually Demmy and Candace�s friendship developed in much the same way as those of real little girls. The problem is that Candace was never really created in her own right; she was created through Demmy�s eyes and was always meant to play the role of �side kick� or �best friend�. Maybe I find her boring because I never gave her the personal love and attention I gave my other characters. I have never stepped into her shoes and looked at the world through her eyes. Maybe I |
| This is the first picture I ever drew of Candace. At the time I didn�t even know she and Demmy would become friends. Demmy is in first grade. | should. I do spend a lot of time wondering what "normal" people think. When Demmy was two years old she had her first best friend, and, just like with real children, that best friend was actually her mommy�s best friend�s daughter of the same age. Her name was Collie, and she was Meristide(Cj)�s daughter. All of Cj�s characters reproduced like rabbits and for that reason there was always one around to befriend Demmy growing up. But when CJ moved to Northern California, just like when mommy�s friends really move away, she took her little girls with her, so Demmy had to make some school friends in order to have somebody to play with. Her first school friends were Janet, Jose, Sarah, and Candace. But for some reason I liked Candace the best. Candace started showing up in more and more group pictures. Demmy kept seeing her other friends of course, but she didn�t see them all that often because they now lived so far away. |

| I guess you wanted more about Candace, didn�t you? About Candace�s early childhood, or her life before she met Demmy, or the adventures she�s had growing up. . . . . Unfortunately Candace is too boring and shy to have any of those things. Well, I assume she had a childhood just like everyone else but I�m afraid I can�t tell you much about it. �But this section was more about Demmy then it was about Candace!� Isn�t that how it always is? The meek get shunted aside and are all too soon forgotten. Hey, I warned you it would be boring! |
| This is the first time I decided Demmy and Candace were close friends. At first Candace was just a random student from school picked to be in this birthday picture, but then she was at the sleepover, and the talent show, and the fight, and well, I decided she and Demmy must be best friends. Other Party goers include: Harley and Meristide (Harla and Cj my two best friends at the time), the dragon-looking twins are Candace (called �Candi�) and Apple (Meristide�s kids), the girl with the blue hair Demmy is talking to is Collie, and the girl next to Collie is Samako (both CJ�s character�s children) |
