My paternal grandfather's family with him as the eldest, back row, center. Amesbury, MA, abt. 1918
My Dad loves music and played in his high school band. He says that his mother was always singing, (some Irish songs and also what was popular of the times) and we loved to hear him sing some of the songs he remembered with his deep voice. Daddy developed an appreciation for classical music and he used to let me read along while he played operas for us. I especially remember reading along with Iolanthe.
My Dad was always working a crossword puzzle or cryptogram or reading Argosy magazine. When we were young, one of Dad's hobbies was building airplanes with engines that he could fly by remote control. He had a huge, beautiful (I think it was a B-52 model) one that crashed first time out-very devastating after all the painstaking work he put into making it. I remember him building sailing ships as well and sanding pieces of wood paying attention to make sure every portion was perfect as he could make it. Dad has always been a great advocate and example setter of "a thing worth doing is worth doing well"

Thanks to the technology available today and the willingness of some of my relatives to share information, I am slowly acquiring a clearer picture of those who have gone before me-I believe it is important to know where they have been and what they have done, not to ride on their laurels or feel the shame of their deeds, but to know what paths have been taken, what choices have been made and what results ensued. The "why" of some things doesn't always come clear until generations pass and a more objective picture may be formed. Thank you, Daddy, for getting me excited about this! I am proud of my ancestry and hope to add to it as clearly and completely as possible. If you are not into genealogy and want a great hobby, this could be it!
Uncle Donald's struggle as a stroke victim was brief-he passed on Friday morning, 27 August 1999. Thanks to all who prayed for him, I'm sure his journey was easier because of you.
